Assistance needed...new owner

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am en experienced mechanic on Mercedes, VW and BMW. But my last Porsche was a 911 from 1969. this 2002 non turbo car was picked up by my dealer friend, now it's mine. Problem is it won't start. turns over and SEEMS to have fuel and spark. But compression is gone in cylinder 6, was told it needed new engine. but in my experience it should at least try to fire off and it does not. has good compression in other cylinders and turns over "normally" it has codes for the cam position sensors on both banks but only "pending" when I got the veh, coils and plugs from cyl 3 and 6 were in the floorboard..I assume from other person running checks. the engine was turned over in this condition but no codes were set?

I don't have any idea how long this veh has been sitting...it kinda got passed around. the fuel smells stale, so I will flush it out....been doing some reading here. is it possible in anyones experience that #6 valve MAY be being kept open due to anything but a mechanical problem...like a vvt actuator or somthing like that. there are no noises when cranking, do timing /cam chains ever go out in this engine? they seem very stout. One theory holds that the engine has been over revved? it's a tiptronic??

Any information on this kind of problem will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark
