Headlight Protection

Recommended Posts

Just got a 2006 997 C2S and read in the manual that you shoud not put any protective covering over the headlights because they could overheat. Has anybody had experience with any of the clear protective coverings on the headlight lens. I was told that stone chips in the lens are 'no big deal' since the lens can be replaced without replacing the whole headlight unit. Is this correct? Thank you.

I've a 987 boxster and can see no way the modern lights can be dismantled to replace just the front lens. I am also not aware of a part being listed as a spare separately. The halogen lamps do run at a higher temperature than the Xenon units but painshield and ventureshield do offer thick films that are capable of covering the entire lense area without detriment to the unit , regardless of the headlight type. Unless you have bi xenon lamps I would suffer the stone chips as replacement or second hand units are relatively cheap. The bi xenon units are however closer to 500 pounds each !

Thank you. I do have the bi-xenon lights and was going to use one of the protective clear covers until I read the warning in the manual.

I have film over my headlights (Xenon) and never had problems with them.

A good reliable shop will install the correct film on the headlight lens without issue.

I have film all over the front nose, headlights, side mirrors, door cups, rear "dog legs" and side rocker panels. A whole lot cheaper than repainting a panel!
