My driver side window won't come down ....

Recommended Posts

Hi:

Just this morning, when I opened the door, the driver side window didn't come down 1/2" to clear the seal. But, when I try to lower/raise the top, the window come down normally. If I push down the window with some force when the door is opened, it will back up when I close it. If I use key to lower/raise the windows, they all work fine. The switch on the center console is normal and can function without problem to move the window. Can anybody tell what kind of problem it is? Is there any easy way to fix it?

MY98 boxster

Thanks in advance.

The door handles have microswitches. So when you move the handle it tells the window motor to go and drop the window. Sometimes the switches go bad or become disconnected.

But since the drop does not work with either handle then it is most likely the window regulator. One of our local guys, Mark, went through this. There is a plastic part on the regulator that breaks.

The only way to know for sure is to remove the door panel and see what is going on.

So, I have to change regulator?

Is it a easy DIY job? I found a web site teaches how to remove door panel. Before I do that, do you think lubricant will work? Since all other function are OK, I don't know if I should try this first?

Also, I have notice that when the door is open/close, window won't hit the top frame (just barely miss it) even though it won't drop down. So, maybe I shouldn't bother to do anything with it  (I don't know if the function is just for that purpose). If the window drops is just to prevent from hitting the top frame when door is open/close, and if it is a hard DIY job, I think I can live with a malfunctioning window since it won't hit anything now.

  • 1 year later...
Just found a web site regarding replacing motor and regulator.  It is not too hard.  Probably will do it later.  Thanks for help.

Hello PorscheFan. I have a similar problem. Did you get your issue resolved? Any hints?
Could you share the URL for the site with instructions? Much appreciated.
