For my 2002 996 coupe, I would like to get some richer sound from the Becker CDR 220, with all the upgrades being non-intrusive...i.e. keep factory speaker grilles, no subwoofer box, etc.

Have gotten mixed advice about 1. Need to replace factory amplifier under the bonnet; 2. Need to replace door speakers but not those in the dash and rear panels.

I am pretty fair at making stuff work, electrically and mechanically, so I'm not limited to direct plug-in's, etc.

Try Crutchfield.com for advice. Also try a search as this topic and adding nav have been beaten to death here and at 986forum.com.

There is no big problem I know of until the 2003 and later MOST bus. The optical connections are over most people's head. And mine.

And... :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

You can get a significant improvement is sound/power by replacing the stock amp and replacing the door and dash speakers. The speakers can be replaced with no significant modifications. I would recommend a three way speaker system with duals on the dash and a single larger speaker in the door. Don't worry about the rear speakers as these are mostly fill. Good luck.
