expansion tank tube question

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I just had a quick question. I have been having a problem with loosing coolant so my assumption is that I have the natorious expansion tank crack (although I don't see anything with the naked eye). Just to make sure I am not missing anything obvious, the hose shown in the attached picture wasn't attached to anthing at the other end. Is this normal? Is is an overflow tube? Is it routed anywhere in particular? To a drain? Thanks.

Tim

It is the overflow tube, the tube go's straight downwards and is connected on the rear engine crosses, if the attach is no longer present (90 % is missing) use a tire wrap or something similar.

Awesome. Thanks for your help. So, it is just and overflow. And, it would not be the cause of my coolant leak. I just wanted to make sure before I buy a new expansion tank that the issue wasn't a tube that had just come loose. Thanks again for your comments.

No, the tube is definitely not the cause, mostly the tank is the culprit, sometimes the cap. If you install a new tank, renew the blue cap with the latest part # to be up dated.

Awesome. Thank you very much for your help. I wanted to make sure that I didn't spend $300 for nothing.
