Air Suspension Compressor - Arrggghhhh!

Recommended Posts

I just picked up the Transsy today from the 3rd service attempt and 20 days in shop service (out of 56 ownership days from new) in attempts to remedy the continuously recycling air suspension compressor.

First service visit they changed the valve body. Second visit they did nothing, since the ride height did not settle or drop over night and over the weekend.

This 3rd visit they replaced the compressor. It is now much quieter, but continues to cycle on and off repeatedly while driving and making no changes in the ride height or ride comfort settings. This continuous cycling of the compressor cannot be right! There has to be a leak somewhere.

Do you guys with the air suspension have continuously cycling compressors without changes to the ride height or ride comfort settings?

The dealers shop foreman says my car is operating within spec. I don't believe it. Can you say "Lemon Law"?

The system has a reservoir tank that the compressor fills and the pressure is directed through a valve block to whatever strut is in need. The compressor should not be running all the time unless you or the suspension are making changes in ride height. Is there another dealer in your area you could visit?

I dont have a transsiberria but do have a Cayenne S with the air suspension option and the only time the compressor cycles on is if it has been sitting for a very long time (weeks+) and I first fire it up, I am changing the ride height frequently(going from deepish snow to ice covered roads ect), or if I am going over very uneven terrain. Sounds like a leak somewhere to me. Semi's trucks that rely on air for brakes and have lines strung over fifty feet of trailer are notorious for this and a frequently charging compressor means there is a leak, but theirs is a simple system. On the Cayenne it could be other sensors telling it to build pressure as well. Long answer to say No, my compressor rarely cycles, and is relatively quiet when it does so. Sorry.

Hi.

YOU GOT A LEAK SOMEWHERE. Get at spraybottle, fill it with a consentrated solution of dishwasher soap and water. Spray on all connection points and bellows on all the wheels and connections under the car. Under the car you also have the valveblock, think it is plased near the compressor somwhere. The plasticpipes has different colores to each wheel and will be easy to spot. You most likely got a leak somewhere. The buffer tank is placed somwhere in the trunk, it has some connection points that could leak to. Be sure to do it on all three positions of elevation also.

Good luck

It's going in Thursday for a "Final Repair Attempt" under Georgia Lemon Law. If they can't fix it, the next step is to ask for a refund; and I'm sure that's where it will get nasty. Hopefully, they can fix it.

(There are actually two accumulator tanks - one in the trunk and another towards the front.)
