My 97 Tip has just reached 120kkm and is in need for a major service.

I was just wondering who here does the major service DIY? Or do we all get it done in a workshop? And if so, what is a ballpark price so I don't get ripped off when I go to a workshop?

Solid items like changing the oil and spark plugs should be fairly easily done DIY. I do these things myself for my other car (Mazda).

But the less "tangible" items like "visual inpection of....." or "checking of ....." listed in the major service table seem like they either require expertly trained eyes, or are simply easy money wishy wushy eye-ball jobs for the mechanic. What do you think?

Also, I think my car missed the 80kkm automatic transmission service including final drive. I have read somewhere previously that if an early transmission drainage is not done, it shouldn't be done at all. Which goes against my instincts. Is this true?
