Dear GT3 enthusiasts,

I recently purchased a 2004 GT3 with 75K km's, and i am hoping to gain some more inside info from this wonderful piece of engineering here on Renntech.

Living in Amsterdam and it's my second car next to a Volvo V70R from 98 with now 330bhp and 450 Nm. The GT3 will be used for occasional track use on club days and porsche events. It's black, completely standard and the next things to be done are a sticky set op Michelin Cup tires and a Tequipment (half) roll bar.

I am hoping to share and gain some knowledge here at this interesting forum. The Netherlands are just too small to have such a 'rich' 996 GT3 'only' forum.

So let's start:

How can you test if your LSD is still working ? Today the car was lifted for a minor 'front spoiler lip' repair and i tested the diff (when the engine was switched off) by holding one of the rear wheels and turning the other.

I always thought that the wheel that you turn, then needs to be kind of blocked or turn hard. But it did not. If i hold one of either rear wheels, the other wheel moves freely without any friction.

So i was a bit surprised. Or can you only test this with a running engine (oil pressure ?) or even with at least some speed ?

If i park my car in the garage, and make a sharp turn driving backwards, it feels like it it's working. the diff. is coping with lots of friction noise to get both wheels round then.

Hope to hear from an expert how this works and how to do a proper test
