98 Box, Engine Clicking Noise when running

98 Box with 101K miles. I don't know when it started, but I can here a clicking/ticking sound from the driver's side when the engine is running. Sounds a little like valve tapping, but I'm not sure. What should I check first?

Have you had the IMS bearing replaced at all 101K could mean thats on the way out if it goes it is catastrophic so take it to dealers or specialists to be checked

also could be a stuck hydraulic lifter

check your spark plugs make sure their all tight, a few months ago I had a plug come out and it all started with a ticking on driver side the # 5 plug came out,had to have an insert installed to fix the threads

It actually went away after a while. The car was sitting in a garage for a month. After a good drive the engine sound normal again. Hmmm.
