Hi Guys,

I am a new 996 C4 tiptronic owner from Taiwan.

I have noticed a pretty loud whining noise when letting the gas paddle go any speed after 100KM/H.

Anyone here encountered similar problem? How did you fix the noise? Is it the broken bearing that is making the noise? or a wear out diff that is making the noise?

The sound does not appear during acceleration, but once you leave your foot from the gas paddle at any speed after 100km/h, the sound appear.

I wanted to make sure the root of the problem first, and then seek the solution on fixing it.

BR,

James

sounds more like the transmission than the engine. I would think there would be more sound on acceleration if a bearing was broken in the engine, or, the engine would not operate.

Maybe there is also the whining sound when accelerate, just the engine sound covered the whining sound, so I could not hear it?

if it was a bearing it would be a grinding, grating, type sound. I think a whine is more likely in the trans.
