Changing my Gauge cluster

All 997 combi instruments are specifically programed to the car, when installing a combi instrument from another car, the cluster must be reprogrammed to the car to avoid weird phenomena.

Agree with you. Probably it wont even work at all.

I think i will stick to the gauge face instead of the full cluster change.

Problem will be to remove the needles and putting them back in the same place.

I have already did a searched and that is a PITA.

I inserted a GT3 One.

Looks so good.

Had to take out the needles for a couple of time to make the right adjustment, but didn´t broke any.

I bought a GT3 complete cluster.

Took it apart and removed the needles of the GT3 and after that the gauge face.

Installed everything in my Carrera S gauge face, even the yellow GT3 needles.

When i fired up the gaugle cluster the yellow needles were orange, the led in my board was orange.

Had to dismantle my gauge face again and change the leds that give light to the neddles with the ones supplied with the GT3 gauge cluster.

Now it is perfect.

Good job. I'm suer that was not an easy task...:clapping:

It requires balls of steel to do it.

Here is the GT3 gauge face completely dissembled.

Here is the problem i had after changing the GT3 gauge face and needles to yellow.

Even the needles were yellow with the light off, with the lights on the leds of the carrera S were orange, i had to take it all apart again and change the board leds from orange to yellow and final result was a perfect replica.

Will post a picture later with the final result.

How difficult was it to remove the actual needles from the cluster?

Are they press fitted?

Are they keyed into a spindle of some sort?

Did you use or make a tool or jig to remove the needles or simply pulled them off using your fingers?

I have a 2006 997c4s and have to change out my face as there is a defect in the finish of the face (came with factory option in guards red, the red is a decal/overlay and its peeling off in one spot).

You use a pry tool similar to the ones sold in this website:

MAcarbon Interior Install Tools ( 3rd tool from the left )

They are press fitted, but you have to be careful not to push them too hard, before removing the needles watch the gap between the needle and the gauge face.

The needles enter in some kind of hollow tube that transports light to the needles, but the hollow tube is connected to some kind of motor.

I can tell you that this is not a easy task to do, so be careful.

Hi M-Maika,

Wonderful job dismounting the cluster!!

I have been trying to remove the front plastic cover in order to remove some dust that accumulated in the back.

But haven't been able to.

This is what I did:

1. I removed the cluster

2. Removed all the 6 small screws that are on the back.

3. Opened the 5 clips (2 on the side and 3 on the bottom)

4. Pushed the front cover.

But, I only get to open 1cm. in the bottom part then it get stuck. It actually opens in the bottom part, but the top part remains steady.

Where is the trick?

There are 2 side plastic clips and a few plastic clips in the bottom and two in the upper part that are dificult to see but they are there.

Maybe if you use a small screwdrive and try to lift the plastic to have a look under the plastic.

Always be careful not to brake anything.
