Piece of plastic spark plug tube-in the engine

Recommended Posts

Hi. I've got a 2002 Boxster S with 65k miles, and today I thought I would change the plugs, coils, and tubes. I made it to the middle tube on the passenger side, all was good until...one of the great moves of all time! While trying to pry the spark plug plastic tube out with a screwdriver, the screwdriver broke through the tube and a fairly large plastic chunk broke off the tube and has gone missing (probably straight down into the engine).

I have gotten my fingeres all around the area and I can't feel the piece that broke off. I am pretty sure it went straight down.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to locate or get it out? I am assuming this will need to be extracted before I start the car again?

Thanks and I guess I should have gotten the transom plug....****!

yes that could get very serious if it were to get entangled with the cam chain and possible jump a tooth, you would not want that. The only solution that I can think of is remove the cam (valve) cover and retrieve the plastic. You will need the Porsche special sealer or a really good silicone gasket maker for the cover. The workshop manual actually tells you when putting the cover back on to gently tap it on with a plastic hammer. be careful and good luck
