I know ,..,,I am searching the site, for the approved list of oil for 1999 996 C2,

I am pulling up thread from 2003 MB1 15w-50 OK

I put mobil one 0w-40 last fall and it was fine for the winter

Now i am hearing tick tick at idle once warmed up

, i would like a thicker oil for the summer has my 996 has 130K miles

There are about a million threads on oil, if you use the search feature.

If you search the download area for approved oils, you'll get the link above.

I'll refrain from giving my opinion here so as to not start yet another thread on oil, considering it is such a religious topic.

thank you..... thats was what i was searching for,

looks like in 2003 15w50 was the thick stuff, that one is no longer approved in 2008

5w50 is the thickest one on that list,

is that the most updated list, 3 yrs ago

Yes TSB 1701 is the latest AFAIK.

Honestly, spend a little time with the search feature and you'll get the answer you're looking for. There really are some great discussions on the subject!

(hint, just because it's not on the approved list doesn't mean it won't fit your application)
