I was doing a little detailing on MY06 997 the other day when I discovered something very odd. There appeared to be something built up, felt rough, on the edge of my right side headlight lens(in the gray area). I couldn't see it, but I could feel it. I put a little Goof-Off on the corner of a rag and attempted to clean off, thinkiing it might be bug guts I missed while washing. The residue became softer and started shedding in a white, sticky, paste like substance. The lens was not getting any smoother and, in fact, the affected area seemed to be increasing (approx. 1 in. X 2 in.) I now am convinced that there is nothing on the surface but rather the surface is deteriorated. There is no way that the Goof-Off contributed to this. There have been no harsh chemicals (ie: brake fluid) near this area. The damage is limited to the lens edge only.

Any thoughts? Defective lens?

Thanks!

I am fairly new to the 997 world but sounds like a defect to me. At first i thought it might be a clear lense protector delamination issue but it doesn't sound like it. Unfortunately the lense cannot be replaced w/o replacing the whole headlight assembly and that's rather pricey even for used units on E-bay and other sights. Be curious to see if anyone else has this same issue. I put a clear bra on my car along with covering the headlight lenses. Hopefully the film on my headlight will help eliminate the delamination issue if that is in fact what it is.
