Help please, windows and roof opening of their own accord

Recommended Posts

Hi all

It has happened 3 times now but only when the car is unlocked.

All four windows went down, thinking i'd left them open I closed them again. Within 5mins they all opened again, at first I thought I had sat on the key, but they were ndoors in a drawer.

I locked the car and all was well again.

A few days ago the roof ( it's a cab ) opened of it's own accord whilst the car was unlocked again. The windows had also gone down.

I have read the article on the possible cause, microswitches but can't see anything that points to the roof going down, it mentions the windows opening 10cm but not the roof and the windows go all the way down.

I aslo heard the alarm beep twice the other day when locking the car, very unusual, it never normally does that. I also read an article relating to a brass ariel conector on the alarm module, checked that and it appears tight.

Can anyone help please. I'm not great with technical or even mechanical issues but would like to try and fix this myself. If it is likely to be a microswitch, which one baring in mind the roof opening?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Regards.

Mal

Hi Mal,

There are a few possibilities here I would investigate.

1.) Something is triggering the roof mechanism, maybe when it's closed it's not getting the signal that it is fully closed and tries to open again. I don't have a lot of experience or info on the soft top, so hopefully someone will chime in.

2.) Your airbag system thinks for whatever reason the car has been in a crash and in this situation opens up the windows automatically for saftey. A Porsche computer such as a Durametric, PST2, or PIWIS is required to diagnose this problem.

3.) Your ignition switch is on it's way out and is causing unexplained electrical behavior. Are there any other symptoms such as lights staying on, etc?

The horn beeping twice is indicating the car is not secure (could be a microswitch), one of the zones is open or unsafe (trunk, gas lid, arm rest console, radio, engine lid, passenger compartment monitoring, etc.). This could be a symptom of the soft top problem though, and not the cause.

Hope this helps.

Hi Logray, thank you for looking at the post. There are no other symptoms, no interior lights on and no other strange behaviour. I'm trying to think logically about this but I maybe way off. The fact the windows open all the way and the roof does says to me it maybe what ever links those together, so what about the comfort switch? Does that have a microswitch in the door somewhere? As you know the key fob opens the windows and roof by holding down one of the buttons, could it be something to do with a microswitch in this area?

1. Above, I understand but the roof had been closed for a couple of days before it opened.

2. Above. would that also open the roof?

3. Above, no other symptoms.
