Need Help. Low Range Selector Light Flashing

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have an 04 CS and yesterday after starting the car the red light on the selector was flashing. Moved it through the different setting and it seemed to work fine and the light went out and did not come on again. Until this morning. But it did not flash after start up. After about 2 miles of driving it flashed a few times and went out.

Does anyone have any ideas about what it is trying to tell me. I searched the forum and did not see anything. I am currently having to drive 1k miles a week and and do not want to get stuck on the side of the road between Denver and Cheyenne. I have not bought a Durametric yet so I can't check the codes.

Thanks, Jeff

It's difficult to tell without fault codes and there is really nothing you can check without a scan tool to read data. I doubt it would leave you stranded, at most the system should default into a limp home mode. With that being said, don't ignore the issue and have the system diagnosed.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have an 04 CS. In the two years + i've owned it, upon every start-up, the 4wheel drive selector flashes red once and goes out. The system works fine - went skiing in VT last month and employed the low range numerous times. I always thought this was normal start-up...my car has been scanned recently (had to replace coils) and no previous codes related to the transfer case function showed up.

mwiadro, thanks for the reply and info. Mine would flash multiple times and then go out. And it will sometimes do it while driving. I should have my Durametric on Monday and I will check the system. Hopefully it will be nothing. The car run fine. I was only concerned because of the owners manual states if the light flashes rapidly after start up have it looked at by a Porsche dealer.
