PASM, PTV, PSE - worth the money?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i'm new to porsches and i'm about to buy a new boxster S. i'm not sure if i should get PASM, PTV and the sports exhaust options.

pasm - how different are the normal and sport settings? are there aftermarket options that are better and more cost-effective?

ptv - i do a lot of fast driving on twisty mountain roads. since the boxster already has excellent handling abilities, how necessary is the ptv? and are there aftermarket LSDs that work better?

sports exhaust - how much louder is it when activated? i remember someone once telling me it's barely louder and not worth the money, but reviews say the opposite. again, any aftermarket options?

thanks!

Can only answer on PASM and PTV.

PASM - you want this, or the sport suspension if you really dig autocross and don't mind the firm ride all the time.

PTV - you want this.  Ever mess up and take an exit ramp just a bit faster than you should for you, especially downhill.  PTV and SM to the rescue.  The car will pivot around itself.

I've felt PTV twice - once on a Laguna Seca lap, and once on a deserted highway with a downhill exit ramp with nearly similar conditions, EXCEPT, the ramp was banked out to throw the water to the outside.  SM and PTV to the rescue.

Sport Exhaust sounds cool, a little more bark going up, and more popping going down.  Friend has it.  Not sure if it does anything else, the car is powerful enough for me.

The aftermarket ones are definitely loud, go check some websites for soundtracks, they are out there.
