Top Relay

2000 Boxster with the top in the open position. Would not close. Dash switch and micro-switches OK. Took the top relay out and banged it on the ground and the top started operating again. Thanks to posters here for suggesting this "fix".

Does this mean that the relay is failing and that I should buy a new relay to have on hand for the next time if the bang solution doesn't work?

Just to muddy the water a bit, the top stopped operating after I had tried a new turn signal relay (LF12) from AutoZone. The LF12 is advertised as 5X louder than the standard relay. However, I could not tell a difference, it might even have been quieter, so I put the OEM relay back in. Another interesting bit, the LF12 has only two legs versus the OEM relay which has 3, but the turn signals and flashers worked fine with the it.
