Can a later year tip transmission be used on a 97

Recommended Posts

It seems my 97 Tip needs a transmission rebuild. I am contemplating options at the moment.

Can a later year Boxster S tiptronic transmission be fitted to my 97? Or possibly one from a 996? Or one from a 2.7?

Has there been design changes in later year models that can be fitted into the MY97 tip transmission during the rebuild to improve quality?

I am contemplating strengthening the tiptronic so it'd pave way for future upgrades.

If you used one from a 996 your car would go in reverse when you selected drive.

Per the parts list the 1997-1999 2.5 is the same. 2.7 is different. 3.2 is different. I have in the back of my mind that the gearing for the 3 different engines is different with the tip, because that is the way it is with the manual transmissions.
