Tiptroic ATF fill-up

Recommended Posts

I am looking at the Porsche 996 Workshop Manual under "Changing AFT'  and see a note that says "Without ATF, the engine must not be started and the vehicle must be towed."  Under item #5 on the same page it says "Move selector lever to position "P" and allow engine to idle"   Item #6 "With engine running, top up ATF again until excess ATF emerges from the bore of the ATF filler screw(2)."

My question is should the motor be running when you are trying to top off the ATF level?   I am confused by the manuals instructions.

Can someone out there with more experience than mine offer the  correct advice?

Yes, once you get the ATF up to temperature and not over 40 degrees C, you place the car in park and fill until the fluid overflows. The volume of ATF in the tranny is directly related to it's temperature.

There is a great ATF Replacement write-up HERE

The fill design ensures correct transmission fluid level provided the ATF it is at the right temperature.
