987 steering wheel on 996

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of putting a 987 steering wheel on my 1997 986. I'm using a VW spline adapter to get the 26mm 987 wheel to sit on the 17mm column of the 986.

That all works fine with some modification of the clock spring.

My question is on the airbag. The 986 airbag is a single connector with two wires. The 987 has two connectors - 2 wires on each. I've searched but I can't find much info on the airbag wiring.

Does anyone have any ideas or can point me in the right direction for info?

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave

I would love to see a pic of how well the 26mm to 17mm adapter fits and a link for where to get it from.

Some googling suggests that one pair of wires is for a single stage airbag system while two pairs is for a two-stage system. This guy here seem to have successfully worked out how to adapt them for his Z3, hope this helps:
