Dension 500 - outdated?

Recommended Posts

I recently bought my 2007 911 S and a previous owner had a Dension unit installed.  My iPhone 7 will not recognize it and I wonder if 1. the Dension unit is outdated, 2. If so is there an update? and 3. Should I be looking at a newer, more up to date solution?  I thought about getting a new head unit or I know there is a product that works in conjunction with the radio (on an FM frequency such as 88.8 or similar) and can connect to the phone via bluetooth for streaming music.  If anyone could comment on the viability of Dension, a "fix" for mine or a better, more current solution I'd be grateful!

I tried few FM options, including one that required short-circuiting the internal antenna to minimize interference with radio stations. None was acceptable.

I struggled a lot initially with the Denison on my 997.1s convertible. Finally, the team developing it figured that there was an error in the firmware, and they release FW 0054 that I still use to this day. Very reliable on my iPhone X with iOS 11.2

i haven’t upgraded past FW0054 since it is working for me now both in Bluetooth mode and USB mode using a regular lightning to USB chord.

I recommend reading the different posting on this, and trying it in three modes : Bluetooth, USB and auxiliary and see which ones work and which ones don’t.

Also hexk your firmware if it is prior to FW0054 , get the latest firmware. The dealer in the US is very responsive and will email the firmware. They helped me debug the system and I provided them the data they needed to send to the manufacturer overseas to get the firmware working on iPhones.

Best of luck

out of curiosity, do you have to have the phone module for this to work?  Ive often wondered about upgrading even though i don't use the car enough to justify it, but i don't have the phone module.  tks!

UPDATE - I went through Dension in Hungary (2 of the 3 "dealers" in the US would;t give me the time of day because I could;t prove I bought it from them).  Anyway, Dension was very helpful and sent new .bin files to upgrade my unit along with instructions on how to do it.  It worked and I can use my iPhone 7 with a 30-pin to lightening adapter.  Not blue tooth but at least I get my music and stuff like Pandora.
