Differential to Tip leak

Somewhat long so please bear with me.  2001 C2 tip, with 38,000 mls.  Oil drips in the garage, slight whine but no other symptoms. I put it up on stands and cleaned up the underside thinking a differential leak. Topped up the diff about 1/2 liter low.  While I was under, I decided to top up the tip.

Opening up the fill port resulted in a torrent (about 1/2 liter) black fluid.  It did not smell burnt rather it looked and smelled like very thin gear oil. The drips seem to have resulted from either the pan or the differential vent. Since I haven’t observed any slippage I’m going to hope the tip isn’t damaged. Of course I’m going to replace all the seals (and bearings if necessary) in the diff and do a full service on the tip.

I’m still researching because I haven’t found anything similar and would welcome any comments.
