2009 GTS Intermittent noise (continuation from 2018 post)

Recommended Posts

So here I am back again almost 3 years later with the same issue. The symptoms are the same as before except for one thing I've noticed. When the whooping or low whistle noise occurs, if I tap the brake it disappears and if I let off brake while still rolling forward it re-appears until I get up to 20-30mph. Now the tech at local Porsche dealer went for a ride with me and heard the noise. He initially thought it could be a leak or crack in vacuum line going to booster pump and what we're hearing is air escaping until more air is forced into it when brake is engaged. (He doesn't believe it's a wheel bearing issue as the sound is nothing like that and it disappears when up to speed.) BUT now after looking at it in the shop he thinks the large engine cooling fan is skipping intermittently and that could be the noise. He ran engine at idle with hood up and the noise was louder and then disconnected fan it stopped. Ok, i guess could be that , but what i can't understand with that is how does tapping the brakes stop the noise if it is the fan ??

Any thoughts or ideas appreciated as usual.

[I added the above comment to the end of the old post as well. Not sure anyone would see it so I started another post here.
