2005 Boxster S - Radio Won't Turn on and Red Light blinking on the right

All of a sudden my radio won't work - a complete dark screen, and there is a red light blinking to the right of it.  I've locked the doors through the key fob and then unlocked the doors and started the car.  But it remains the same - just a red blinking light to the red of the dead screen (not the red blinking light for the alarm in the center of the console next to the door locking button).

 

How do I get the radio to work again, or is the unit dead and needs to be replaced?  Is it the car alarm or something?
