Paint or Buy Aluminum Look rear center console?

Recommended Posts

I have decided that I want to get the rear center console (Alum look 986 552 995 09) for my 996, I already have the wheel, door bin covers, handles and instrument surround. I was wondering if anybody has painted the rear center currently in the car instead of spending the $500-600 for the OEM Alum look piece. If painting....is the color something easy to track down?

Hi,

I looked at this and decided it was best left to the experts, the centre console has a lot of tricky edges as well as the need to get a deep sheen on the larger bits. See Loren's comments in the DIY section.

It is worth the money to get it done properly - in the UK it will cost you GBP 250 so it can't be much more that USD400 over there. See Bumperplugs.com

I just put one in my car TODAY, courtesy of C2Babe, Itzkirb, AND Loren's encouragement....It goes in like a breeze and ADDS ton's of color and contrast to an otherwise DRAB Black interior.....the coolest thing is that it ties in with my Alu-Look Steering wheel and AS Painted SeatBacks on the sport seats in my 996
