New 996 Owner With questions

Recommended Posts

I am a new member and new 996 owner. I recently sold my 944 and Boxster and just purchased a 2002 996 Cab on Thursday. I had a 300 mile trip home so I can say that I have put some miles on it since I bought it; however, I have not done much since. I plan to autocross this vehilce and I can't wait. I have been going through the owner's manual and a couple of questions came up and I could use some help.

1- It appears that my 17 inch wheels are from a 993. The rears have the proper offset; however, I am concerned about the fronts. They are 17X7.5 with an offset of 65mm. The manual says 17X7 with 50mm. I am not sure how to convert but I do not think that these wheels are correct. No problems that I have seen...they just clears the calipers, not much room. I could not see any spacers either. What do you think?

2-Has anyone had the roll bars pop up from an autocross or DE? If so, is it a big deal or not?

Thanks for all your help!

For PCA events, the PCA 996 Tech Advice column has this to say, quoted directly from page 2 of the PCA DE Guidelines .... "any make of car delivered with factory-installed roll over protection meets the minimum standards for PCA DE events."
