Litronic head lights

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I've just pick up a cheap set of litronic headlights on e-bay that came without any bulbs.

My question is what bulbs do I need is it just a pair of xenons for the main beams i.e. can I use any of the bulbs I currently have in my stock head lamps? Or do I need lots of new bulbs? Where is the cheapest place to source them from?

Also is there anything I need for retro fitting to my 99 Boxster? I don't need the headlamp wash or the levelling kit.

Thanks for your help.

Duncan

I think he is from Guernsey, and might be the only Boxster on the island.

The 2000 US owner's manual has a bulb chart for the standard and lits. Download it here.

http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...iewfile&fid=947

The black plastic headlight housing also has markings that tell you what bulbs to use.

From the bulb chart you would need the xenon low beam bulb which is a D2S. The high beam and fog lights are the same H7 halogen bulbs in your standard lights, so you can swap over those bulbs.

Looks like the parking light bulb is different.

The expensive part is going to be the 2 xenon bulbs. Porsche says to use the Philips brand, but do not be limited by that brand since you will not matching. Osram also makes that bulb, as do other companies. Do a Google search under xenon D2S.

Yep that's right TP I'm from Guernsey... although I've just moved over to England and I must say the cars loving the increased speed limit (Guernsey's limited to 35mph!!).

Thanks very much for the info that's a great help.... just to confirm I can simply plug and play the new lights without have to modify the wiring?

VFXBOX - I bought the lights knowing I'd have to buy the bulbs he clearly stated it in the e-bay ad so no surprises... thanks for the concern.

Cheers

You do not need to modify anything. Without the control unit you will not get the beam rotation, but others have put them in without the control unit.

Then you have to deal with MOT since you will not have the level sensors and washers.

Hope the units work. Strange to sell headlights without any bulbs.

I thought that too the guy worked for porsche in Italy and the lights came off a RHD car..... I realise that you can switch the litronic units between LHD and RHD my guess is the switch doesn't give you exactly what you would get with the LHD specific and is therefore against the law in Italy he therefore got a set of LHD specific lits and put the bulbs in those to save the customer money.... that's my guess anyway.

Lights look brand new came very well packaged in Porsche boxes theres no marks on the units at all so fingers crossed.

Got them for approx USD300 found a pair of D2S bulbs for approx USD65 (which is very cheap I realise but hey I'll give them a go and see what happens (there philips so hopefully will be cool).

A lot of people have been talking about the MOT issue on the boxa.net forum and it's come to light you only need the washers and levelling kit on a newly spec'd car not a retro fit.

Do I need to fit a different fuse in the car to run these lights?

Also TP did you read my query on brakes..... I was just wondering what your houghts were on this?

Thanks again for your help.
