I have just picked up my 911 after having an iPod compatible system installed. It sounded like utter cr@p!!! They have now taken it back and removed my innate amplifier and replaced it with another one. From my trawling of the internet, some posts seem to think the innate amp is important for the cars functionality, but the installer assurred me this was not so ... Needless to say I don't trust the installer anymore, and still have the original amp, but was wondering what was liekly to malfunction? Thanks for all your help from Down Under!

What year is your car? MOST installed cars obviously have different issues than pre-MOST systems. In my experience, the factory 6 channel amp was a bit inadequate, to say the least. I upgraded the amp myself, along with the head unit and speakers, to a JL Audio 4/300.

Mine is a 996 2004 Targa. I was told the amp controlled other things apart from the cd player, but the audio people took it out and replaced it with one with more bang. What else does the amp do apart from controlling the CD player? i.e. Heating, cruise control or something like that - cheers for your help

Since your is an 04, I believe that it is a MOST car. I don't have the MOST system so I'm not exactly sure what all it controls, but, it is my understanding that the components are all networked together and removal of one of the components in the network can cause issues with the rest of the network communication / interaction. If everything is working, and you're happy with the sound, I'd say you're in good shape.
