997 seats in a 996

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else on the forum, I'm having a rough time searching on appropriate terms :)

I have a chance to buy some 997 seats for my 996. I've noticed that the 997 seats adjust quite a bit lower and am hoping to gain some headroom in my cabrio with some 997 seats. They appear to be bolt compatible, but I'm curious about the power harness. It'd be too much to hope that they are actually pin compatible. Just curious if anyone has done this and has found a good way to get power to the 997 seats in a 996?

Also, are the seat belt receptacles compatible? (IE can i use my 996 seat belt receptacles in the 997 seats?)

Thank for any help!

I think they fit fine, have a look on 6speed forums, a guy carrier out this mod recently, still a current running thread.

I know they are bolt compatible, I just don't know how to hook up power :)

Each seat has a big like 20 pin push on adapter. It is held on

by this yellow lock that you need to pull sideways before

removing the electrical harness.

thanks Paul!

The 997 and 996 use different connectors, was hoping someone had done the wiring and could share how to wire the passenger side weight mat, the seat belt sensors (probably not an issue as I'm hoping the 996 seat belt receptacles bolt on) and the power back.

I think it'll look anachronistic in the 996 interior. Any mixing and matching from a 997 to 996 and vice versa is mixing and poorly attempting to match original design considerations from the factory.

Best bet would be to get some of those 996 GT3 bucket seats since they're lower than stock 996 seats if you really need that extra headroom.

as an aside, the 993 sport seats have the most beautiful hardback design. second goes to the 996. the weakest sport seat design is the 997. they messed up.
