05 cayenne turbo alternator

Recommended Posts

I'm going on a long trip and im worried about my alternator going when im in the middle of knowhere of the good ol USA. Are these altrernators water cooled and what does it take to replace it if I have to. was thinking of keeping a spare one in my trunk and a starter too. I know those are much easier to replace.

it is water cooled. last time i saw it was during my timing chain replacement. we took bumper and radiator off. no an easy job.

starter is under the intake mani and the coolant pipes. no need to remove the bumper and front end.

why do you think you need to replace them??

I just got a quote for same as my alternator is making a little sound and wanted to know how much to replace the unit and get rid of the sound. Due to the location in the engine bay and water cooling, the cost to replace it at my very reliable dealer was $1,315. Needless to say that cost is not a rounding error so replacement of unit for my money requires something more than just a little noise. Just thought I would least let you know what the cost impact would be.

thanks gardin. I know the starter is an easy job when I had taken the intake off to see if my coolant pipes were upgraded to aluminum and luckily they were. I just needed a piece of mind to carry a spare starter or alternator with me on my road trip just in case.
