Throttle Cable Replacement

Hi my throttle cable is sticking on my 98 c2, I have a new one, plus the joiner. Has anyone replaced one before ? if so how easy is it and do I need to remove the carpets ? What's the cable run? under the carpet or under the car?

Thanks I did do a search but that post has not answered my questions, where is the junction to adjust ? is it under the carpet or under the car ?

The junction is near the transmission, left hand side of car.

Under car in the transmission tunnel. It's right near the bottom of the car, very easy to spot. Looks similar to a bicycle cable housing.

As for adjustment though, I would comment that correct cable routing is more important than trying to twist or tweak the cable in some way.

In this pic of my car, it's the cable that exits out the upper left hand portion of the screen and snakes down past the driveshaft and the blue clutch slave cylinder line and then into the body with it's own rubber grommet (near base of shell). You can see before it goes into the body there is one of the junction points for the cable. From there under the carpet to the accelerator.

On a RHD car, it's probably on the opposite side.

Thanks thats brilliant I can see where I need to look now, the cable needs replacing as its sticky when not used for a while so I imagine some water has got into the connector and corroded it.

If I remember right, there are some threads with sticky pedals where people have dismantled the accelerator pedal and put lubricant into the cable housing to fix this problem.

Yeah Ive had the pedal apart and its definitely not the pedal thats sticking, also have notice that the cable seems a few mm to short so I imagine someone has not routed it correctly after engine being removed.

Well changed both cables, turned out to be the end from the accelerator pedal to the connector under car, totally corroded and cable would barely move! In the parts manual you can only get the cable with the pedal assembley which cost a lot (£167) ! after ordering and paying for the whole assembly I notice that the cable has a part number on it, when looked up you can order just the cable at 1/4 of the price!

I now have nice smooth throttle pedal !

That's great! Would you mind sharing the part number on the cable? And is it similar to the one going to the engine which looks like a bicycle style cable?

the part number that is on the cable is 996.423.222.04 but this is for RHD C2 1998 996, I have checked the part number with the local dealer and it is valid and available here in the UK
