How to remove rear seat back?

hi everyone,

I'm picking up my new 997S this Sat. Does anyone know how I can remove the rear seat back. I know the bottom cushion can be pulled up? I tried to search the forum, but I couldn't find the exact instruction.

They are pretty much just like 996. Most 996's use a 6 mm allen wrench but some use a triple square.

For the older GT3 and folks that ordered a rollbar kit Porsche has a kit that covers the mounting holes left behind. 000 044 801 63. It is a kit that normally comes with the Porsche Tequipment Sport Roll Bar to cover up holes after you've removed the seats to install the bar. It includes a couple of nicely made silver painted caps, two large vinyl covered plugs, and a mini version of the pin that secures the center of the seatbacks so that you can reinstall the cap over the center mounting point. Chances are it will work on a 997 too.

Pretty much, but you will still need to remove the hardware (items 2,3 8,9, 10) on the side panels or it will stick out.

One more question, how do I remove the center cap item #6? Do I just have to pull hard?

Yup, it just snaps off.

All right, it took a me awhile trying to figure out how to remove the middle cap (item 6) without scratching up the plastic. Then, I think there is some sort of cap also covering item 9, how do I remove this?

Same way, mine just slides off towards the bottom.

Well, you could. The rear side panels will need to come off to get to the belt bolts and in the end the belt (slotted) trim will still be there. I'd say 30 minutes to an hour if you have the right tools (and don't drop the front screw into the side of the chassis). ;)

Assumed you were going for a GT3 look. They are only in the way without the seats.

well, I was trying to install a child car seat. I hope I can get the some extra space by removing the seat bottom and seatback.

thats what i thought you may be doing - I have 2 small kids too and this could be useful for me, but i reckon you need the back for stability of the seat - ours are both in uprights now (3.5yrs and 9mths old)

It's me again. I'm still trying to remove the cap that covers item #9. Does it require a special tool? I'm having a hard time trying to remove them. Maybe I should just ask the dealer?

It just slides down and off in my car (maybe mine has been off too many times and is looser now :lol: )
