  1. Hello all, I sold my '99 996 awhile back and just purchased a '98 Boxster. The first time I used the roof I opened it (so the roof was up) and heard a snap. The light on the dash is on (roof not up completely). After searching the forums I figured I needed to pop off the other arms so I can move the top down and see whats happening. I managed to crawl inside reach inside and get the other arms off and now I can open the rear deck lid (roof is still up). I noticed I snapped the ball end of the drivers side push rod. I also noticed I do not have a passenger side push rod nor the bolt that is attached to the lever. Its not there at all. I do have the deck lid rods which I popped off. I tried to open the top manually but it seems to get stuck about half way and I dont want to force it. I replaced the ball socket on the snapped push rod. I can attach the push rod, but I wont be able to attach the deck lid rods without putting the top down. I read NOT to touch the power top buttons unless all the rods are connected. What do I do now to get the top working again? (I know i need the other side pushrod but I'll get that once I get the top working so I can open it fully for easier access). Thanks! Zak
  2. i checked the door speakers, they are 2 ohm. I cut up the fronts and backs I can't remember. Ill see if I have pics.
  3. Hey, this is just the thread I wanted to see. My '99 looks the same as yours with the extra plate from the transmission. I was under the car for about a half hour trying to figure out where to pull the filter from. I figured it slid all the way back by the tranny but I couldnt separate the pipes enough to pull the fuel line off. I didnt have the second plastic holder off so I will try again and take them both off and spread the pipes.
  4. I have a '99 with hi-fi but no DSP. I completely removed the stock nokia amp and replaced it. That amp splits the door speakers so if you replace speakers also, you need to replace the amp if the speaker impedance is different. It sounds alot better with a new amp and it was easy-ish to do. My replacement 4 channel kenwood amp even fits in the same space. I did cut the harness for the amp to get access to the speakers but the wiring diagram for everything made sense. I also pulled the battery and on the drivers side theres a big firewall plug you just pop out to route new wires ( i made new dash speaker wires, rear sub and direct power). I can't speak to the DSP,but replacing the amp would make it easier.
  5. Ok I didnt realize you could slide them out the side or under without taking that off. This will make it easier next time I need to do it, thanks!
  6. How do you get by step 6 (on the pelican guide) if you dont remove the bumper? Sorry pic is in-your-face-big i just pasted the url from the site! Thanks, Zak
  7. I did my lpugs about a month ago.. I tried first to just remove the rear wheels and jacked it high enough to get some good clearance but that was really tough. Theres no way I could get my hands into the back there. So I followed the pelican guide here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-996-997-Carrera/46-EXHAUST-Muffler_Replacement/46-EXHAUST-Muffler_Replacement.htm and Lorens guide above, and even watched a youtube video. It was easy enough to take the rear bumper cover off, that gives you access to the mufflers then the plastic covering then the mufflers. The only extra advice would be to spreay the exhaust clamp nuts with liquid wrench or similar the night before. I ended up heating them to take them off and one was rusty so I had to replace it (any similar carriage bolt will do). Once you have the mufflers off then its much easier to get in there. It still took patience but it wasn't hard. Wouldnt have taken me a day if I'd just removed the mufflers first.
  8. I have a '99 C2 and also changed out my speakers. The door speakers are split at the amp and thats where the crossover is also. Heres a post with the wiring diagram in it. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/27581-cdr-220-wiring-diagram/ Depending on what you're doing, you can use the stock amp and change speakers but I ended up taking it out and rewiring, it was easier than using the wires from the amp. After I labelled them all it was easy but its confusing if you are just looking back and forth from the wiring diagram. I can give you more details if you like, just PM me. Good luck
  9. That's a good article. Im gonna test it all tomorrow. Thanks again.
  10. Hey thanks for the reply. No lights are on, I know the fan works as I've heard it on, just not after the engine is off. Any idea what temp would be high enough to set it off? I've shut engine off between 80-100c and nothing. Thanks, Zak
  11. Edit - I mean the needle is just right of "80" not 180.. Just past the 12 o'clock.
  12. Hi guys, I got my first Porsche earlier this summer - love it. A '99 C2. I've spent time here lurking and reading up on it to familiarize myself with the car. I'm pretty handy and looking forward to doing as much maintenance myself as I'm capable of. My question is - When I shut the car off, the engine bay stays hot for a long time.. like over an hour I've noticed its very hot the the touch by the spoiler. My temps while driving seem normal from other posts I've read. Just to the right of the 80 in stop and go rush hour. So do the rad fans or the spoiler fan kick on even when the car is off, or once you shut the car off no fans. I've used the search function and read both - no fans after shut off and yes theres a timer sequence for high temps. I guess I'm not familiar enough with the different models to determine what mine should be doing. Any advice appreciated, Thanks,
