  1. Black plastic. Is a bezel or any other hardware needed?
  2. I want to replace my cassette holder with a storage tray. What part number(s) do I need? My dash currenly has the heat/AC on top, then stereo, then cassette holder, and DSP on the bottom.
  3. Your car looks great. I also do not have the carrera script on the back. I mostly like not having to clean around all the edges of the script when waxing. Your painted bumperettes change the color ratios. I am undecided if the black-colored script would be an improvement or detraction.
  4. There is an AUX adapter that plugs into the radio where the cd changer is located. You can order it from Becker for about $20. "Phone mute/Aux audio-in/Tel audio-in/Removal keys in one kit, part # 1319.116-276 To order please call our parts department at (888) 423-3537 x1209"
  5. I have been using Sprayway after reading Guru Reports window cleaning guide. It is safe for tinted windows (I found mine at Ace Hardware). I really like my microfiber towels for cleaning windows. Check out http://www.gurureports.org/ They have information on waxes and window cleaners and tire/wheel care.
  6. My 2001 C2 passenger window goes up with one touch.
  7. Try the links below. Tons of information. http://www.sportscarcare.com/ http://www.properautocare.com/ http://www.griotsgarage.com/ http://www.autopia.org/
  8. I agree with LVDell. While a new OEM top may technically be "betterment" I do not see how they can force you to accept anything less. You had an OEM to to begin with. I am in the middle of a claim against an insurance company after a client of theirs ran into my 996 causing minor damage. If I had to do it again, I would pay for my repairs and rental car myself and then bill the person who hit me. Let them deal with their insurance company, not me. Before spending a dollar of my own, I would check with a lawyer. Also, I used to have a 1983 911 cabriolet. I had one of the best shops in the country replace it's top. It was never the same. It did not open and close as easily which significantly decreased the enjoyment of my car. That was a simple, manual top. I am afraid the path of least resistance may make you poorer and/or unhappy. Good luck, whatever you decide. Please let us know how things turn out and if you are happy with the repair.
  9. Matt, I think the wiring setup described by Scouser in the May 7 2004 post is the best setup I have seen thus far. You have one exposed wire to connect to the iPod that sends audio to your head unit through the male RCA jacks. The iPod is powered at the same time. As soon as I have time I am going to modify my wiring also. My post describes an inelegant way to connect both the cd changer and iPod to the same input on the head unit. Ignore those steps if you do not have two audio sources to send through one connection.
  10. I had also been quoted packing and shipping costs of $400 by two different sellers. My deal with Brumos fell through after the top had been damaged a second time in preparation for shipping. My second deal never materialized as the seller did not have the correct color combination in stock. I luckily found one at a dealer 100 miles away. It must have been tucked into a corner of the warehouse for years. The first time I called the parts department said they did not have one but would be happy to order it for me. I was visiting the dealership a few months later and mentioned my search to the salesman I was talking to. Next day he called and said he found one! The parts manager was ecstatic to unload it.
  11. Nice tip. Now it will be harder for my kids to drop things (hats, sippy cups, crackers, etc.) over the side as we drive.
  12. My 2001 996 cab with 18 inch wheels also returned from service with 36/44 cold pressures. Is there any known drawbacks to lowering the pressures? I assume there is increased rolling resistance causing increased heat buildup and increased fuel consumption with lower pressures. A relatively free handling upgrade does sound great.
  13. Brandywine Porsche has them on sale. Prices listed in the June Excellence are $199-$225. www.brandywineporsche.com 887-666-2884
  14. Great. I emailed them to see if a cable with a cd-changer connecter and a/b switch is possible. I am not very hopeful based on the responses in the FAQ. Will it work with your Blaupunkt? Looks like a MOST adapter is also in the works.
  15. Thanks for the information. Back to the electronics store this week. Good luck with your next project. I just don't see why a manufacturer can't include an input jack.
  16. Nice innovation! It is convenient that the iPod runs on 12v. The iPod sounds fine in my car. The CD changer has the backgound noise. I assume the noise suppressor is still installed in the iPod power supply and ground wires.
  17. I would love any suggestions for improvement. My ability to fabricate wires is substandard. If prefabricated wires are available, please let me know. A premade kit has to be possible...... Thanks for the idea of a noise suppressor. I am going to install an on-off switch in the iPod wiring and/or the noise suppressor.
  18. In the middle of the wire now connected to the CD changer (the one with the funky male/female end I placed an on-off switch. Wiring for this was also difficult as I again had to deal with a wire for ground, right and left. I just connected the right and left cables to the switch and joined the ground wires directly together. I connected it this way because I could not find a switch for more than 2 wires. I could have used 2 switches. I don't know if it matters.
  19. The wire I used for this part is in the next picture. It is the one with a male connector on one side and a female on the other. I connected it to the AUX in (bottom left). I connected the iPod adapter into the female end. The male spade connector bag is in the top right of the picture.
  20. Here is a picture of the wires inserted into the blue block. If you have really good eyes, you can see I wired it wrong in this picture with the shielded wires joined together. (Unfortunately, my mood had soured as the project progressed and I lost interest in additional photography.)
  21. Each wire has an inner shielded wire and an outer collection of unshielded copper fibers. The ground is the outer collection and must be joined into a single wire then attached to the male spade. Each inner shielded wire gets its own male spade connector.
  22. Next I deconstructed an RCA cable to make one end into 3 wires with male spade connectors.
