  1. I read the gist of your other threads, sounds like you rather enjoy chasing demons. So you traced it to the fuse which is good but I assume that node is connected to a number of loads? Have you tried chasing the drain to it's final destination? Rather than passing the current through a 4 port meter you can use an AC/DC clamp meter. I have this cheapy and it works well enough for a 2 amp reading. If you trace it completely you can rule out faulty wiring and focus on PCB faults or programatic issues. Programmatically I assume there is a low power mode for most/all of the controllers in this vehicle that are permanently connected to 12v. This is likely transmitted over CAN bus but might be a hard line. Find out how the module is put to sleep and verify the correct messages/signals are being sent. If they are... then you have narrowed the problem down to parasitic losses on the PCB. In my experience short circuits like this on a PCB (2a at 12v) would be rather obvious visually or thermally. It's alot of power to be dissipating on a PCB through a failure so if you don't see burned parts or feel hot transistors/resistors then it's most likely just operating normally; just not in a low power state. I'll be getting a Porsche SIT manual soon (it sin the mail) but it's for the 2004. Hopefully it has some info on the KESSY system. I am interested in this issue because I also have some battery drain issues, though not nearly as severe and I haven't bothered tracing it out yet.
  2. I looked over amsoil product list and they have a 0w40 signature series and a 0w40 european vehicles (that specifically mentions porsche A40 oil spec). Elsewhere on the web it sounds like the european specifications have very specific (and sometimes reduced) additive packages that are compatible with the emissions equipment. My guess is the signature series is a bit better than the european version for wear resistance but it might not be fully compatible with the emissions system on the car? What oil do you use?
  3. I went back into the headlight again last weekend and found the short harness that sits in the cradle had the insulation falling off all of the wires. This is likely the cause of my right headlight check indicator problem. I removed the harness cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and coated the whole think in a few coats of liquid electrical tape. Haven't have any problems with it since.
  4. I have a 2006 Cayenne S. The 12v adapters all remain powered on and the trailer brake controller also retains power indefinitely (until the vehicle detects low battery condition then it shuts off accessory power). The brake controller is a P3 wired into the factory tow package wiring harness. I am looking for a good way to change the behavior of the car so all the 12v adapters turn off and the trailer brake controller turns off when the car is off, parked, and locked. I use 12v adapters for charging and for bluetooth FM transmitter and don't like unplugging these devices 2x daily. I have the electrical schematics for the car but I don't know where to find writeups of the 'theory of operation' like you often get in other service manuals (honda, chrystler, etc.). So my first question is does porsche produce writeups like these? What are they called? and where do I find them? Unless of course somebody has already solved this issue?
  5. I have had intermittent and lost connections (check dipped beam and turn signal not working) on both of my 06 cayenne S headlights. In my case the connectors do not seat deeply enough in the headlight due to wear/damage to the tray, headlight, and connector. Plastics do not stay the same shape forever so rather than buying new trays and headlights to fix the tolerance issues I put some self adhesive rubber (like foam tap) behind the connector on the tray to move the connector slightly forward so it pushes it more deeply into the headlight. I also put some deoxit on the contacts to help remove oxides and improve conductivity. If you have a connectivity problem this is certainly your cheapest solution as the alternative - trays are about 80$ each and the headlights range from 250$ for halogen to 1400$ for porsche zenon.
  6. This is the first time I have heard about the cylinder scoring issue. Seems the engine might wear faster than other engines in that regard. Do you think that longer warm ups (in addition to more frequent oil changes) would help with slowing the cylinder wear? I assume that most of the wear happens the moment you start the engine so a longer warmup probably doesn't matter. I have never been a believer or fan of oil or fuel treatments as they are not part of any official OEM service procedure (other than treating gas for water during long storage). However in this case do you think a product like redline SI-1 would help reduce startup wear? I have noticed an odd tappet/valve type noise from the engine that reminds me of engines without hydraulic valve lifters (like valve lash noise). The noise is mild and dose not change over the duration of a drive. It's nothing as severe sounding as a leaking hydraulic valve lifter (like a engine with fully leaked down lifters during starting). I've read this could be piston slap or it could be some sort of timing chain slap due to ignition timing. The engine does have a slightly rough idle but I have no loss of power, no codes, no smoke in the exhaust (although exhaust tips are rather sooty). I'm probably not going to dig into this issue too much yet but I'm interested in it from an academic standpoint.
  7. I just bought a high-milage 2006 Cayenne S so I put together a nice fluid types/volumes chart similar to what you find in domestic car manuals for older vehicles. My sources for this info are: owners manual, service manual, Porsche minor/major maintenance checklists, pelicanparts.com, and google search. I posted this as a resource that might help others looking for this information. Note there is an option for a limited slip rear differential (mine does not have that option) but if yours does you will need the friction modifier in the gear oil as well this can be added to regular gear oil but many parts stores sell the gear oil with this additive already incorporated. It does not hurt an open differential to use gear oil with a friction modifier, its just a small waste of money for additive that you don't need. I have a couple questions: What is the engine oil change interval? the minor maintenance checklist says 40k miles but this seems too long. What is the power steering fluid change interval? its not listed anywhere. Also based on your experience with maintaining porsche should any of the change intervals for the below items be shorter/longer? Anything else a new porsche owner should know about maintenance? Any good scan tools out there for porsche that don't cost over 1000$?
