  1. Jeff. It works!! :clapping: The wires need swapping as you say with 2 inputs to slot A. This socket is for the windscreen aerial as well as a 12volt supply for the amp. My audio dealer tried it on his car last night and it powered everything up! To help others, the wire C6 is black and red-the wire A5 is white. Rather than cut wires I thought I would try and connect my ISO adapter to A5 after stripping the white jacket back a little. It should avoid cutting C6 and thus making it easier to put the stock cd player back in when I sell my car. Jeff, do I need to solder the wires together or is it OK to just twist them together tightly and cover with insulating tape? I want to avoid doing something permanent if possible, unless I really need to. Many thanks as always
  2. Thanks guys. I will hang in on the Becker board a bit longer. I have been talking to my audio retailer (sold me the unit but live 100s of mile away!) about this. My amp isn't powering up although everything else is. To remedy I have to get an ISO adapter for a standard head unit with active speakers. I have this already (pic) but it involves soldering the fly lead onto the lead marked "control output for automatic antenna" labelled 5 in socket A. This will provide a 12 volt supply to the amp. I feel quite nervous about this-will be an irreversible step. I think that Lorens TSB may help. Please e-mail me this to netrophile@aol.com Do you think I should do this soldering Jeff? Predictably my dealer knows nothing about this dilemma. I dont know if swapping leads will help. The wiring diagrams for the CDR220 and traffic pro high speed are exactly the same. Besides what do I do with the wire in slot 5 when I put the new one in? One thing anyway-I am really learning a lot!
  3. I couldn't turn down an offer to get the above at half price. I thought it would be easy to swap out for my CDR 220 as the connections at the back of the unit are the same. So I swapped the 2 units and the new traffic pro seemed to work fine apart from the fact I could not get any sound out of my speakers. The Porsche CD changer changes the CDs, the unit switches on and off and the radio seems to work all without any sound. I have the uprated porsche 10 speaker system with OEM amplifier in my C2 1999 996. When I put the old CDR 220 back in there is no problem with sound. What is the problem with the traffic pro? I'm getting really frustrated with the whole thing now. Any help would be greatly appreciated-I didn't have much luck on the Becker Board.
  4. Thanks! I took everything out again and tested with a ohm meter. The bulb worked fine. When I reconnected it worked again-must have been a contact issue. :D
  5. Thanks Don. I like your mod but I do have a real problem. My mind likes symmetry, so much so that I was thinking of replacing the 2 dummy inserts with real switches (non-functional) to make the console balance. If I were to close off the cigarette lighter (I don't smoke being medical!) I'm sure that my driving would suffer because of the bad feng-shui
  6. Thanks Jeff. I will get on to this later today but I ordered a new bulb anyway-I wouldn't have thought it would be that expensive even if I just end up keeping it in my toolbox. The 996 arrangement looks just like your picture as you figured I'm sure.
  7. The filament looks intact. This is a dim question but could the bulb still have burnt out? I cant see how it works either. It is shut in a green cover with a white cylinder over it. Is this what you guys have? Isn't it funny-I never thought I would be writing this sort of stuff on the internet when I bought my Porsche!!!
  8. Hello everyone. Hope all is well. I just replaced my central dash console today. When I took the cigarette lighter out I noted there was a small light. I dont know if this is working now. The dash lights up as normal but the lighter surround does not. I think it lights up when the lighter is hot but it is quite faint. Am I right? If so then it must be working OK. If not then I may need a new bulb. The lighter heats up fine. Thanks for any help with this.
  9. I am in the process of changing mine at the moment. I got a quote of £69 from my porsche dealer for a boxster red one covered in leather. The dealers don't do any other coloured variants. You can only get plain black plastic ones otherwise for £3. I decided to buy one of these and customise it myself-it cant be that difficult to spray paint it and add a decal like Don has!!
  10. Thanks Gert. You are right. This is a rear seatbelt and I dont think for my car. I have dropped the idea-will wait for the next blue ones to turn up somewhere else!! Best Regards
  11. Loren (or anyone else!!). Hope all is well. I need your help again with this. I have been offered a pair of very nice blue seatbelts today. The part no is 996.803.983.01.H04. Do you know if these will fit my 1998 996 C2 3.4L? I didnt go for the yellow belts in the end because the price was too high for used items. Thanks in advance

  13. Guys. can anyone help me with these 2 questions? I was going to fit some litronics into my C2 1998 996. However can these just fit in and work after I take out my original lights or do I need to wire them in as well? I have a feeling that they will probably work OK if I just replace them for the originals as I want to try and avoid all the wiring stuff if posiible. Also does it matter if they are LHD or RHD. Is there a lever or swith on the headlamps that can change them from LHD to RHD? Thanks for all your help
  14. AFAIK these are the exclusive ordinary belts-not the 6 poit ones. Are they easy to replace Loren? Any chance of some instructions? Thanks
  15. Dear Loren. I wonder if you know whether the yellow front seatbelts (part~99680303390v02) will fit my 1998 3.4 C2? If so, can this change be made easily. I will only do this if it is easy. Thanks in advance (yet again!!!)
  16. Gery. I hope I can help. If it is the bin lid covers you want to change I recently did this myself. The hard way is to open the bin and look at the edge nearest the door handle. There is a swivel point/pin here. It is surrounded by a black semicircular plastic piece which is an extension of the bin lid but the silver head just sticks out a little. Grab this silver bit with small snub nosed pliers and pull hard. I tried 1-2 times and gave up as the pin head was getting scratched. An easier way is to use a size 6 torx bit on a small sleeve (1-2 cm) and unscrew all the tiny screw heads on the undersurface of the bin lid. I think there were about 11 or 12. Dont loose them!! The hardest one is the most medial (next to the door handle side). This will require a bit of contortionism (hence the small sleeve on the torx bit). However it is only a small screw and will eventually come out. Then simply replace the bin lid cover. it will take about 15 minutes per side. If it is the whole lid and not the cover you want to change then you will have to persist with the snub nosed pliers. Good Luck m8!!
  17. I think I have hit the biggest frustration since I got my Carrera. I am in the process of removing the back seats and have taken everything off except for the black plastic piece in the middle between the seat backs. I was told to pull this straight towards the front of the car. Try as I might, it wont move. Has anyone got any tips to help me remove this without breaking it? Thanks
  18. Thanks for the replies guys. I live in the UK so the suncoast option is out for me. The dealer was going to do the whole lot (minus swith) at an all inclusive price of about $1900. This is cheaper than the part itself in the UK so I cant grumble! My understanding of the quiet default was that I had to get the dealer to weld something in the exhaust. Is this true or am I grabbing the wrong end of the stick. PS while i am here can I ask something else? I am trying to take my back seats out and I cannot get the plastic piece in the middle to come out at all. Are there any tricks involved?
  19. Hi. I am getting a dealer fitted PSE on my 996 next Sat (no switch!!). I have read that there is some sort of auto cut off between 28-45 mph. How do I get rid of this. Do I need to ask my dealer to do it or can I? Indeed should I be getting rid of this at all?
  20. Antonio. I like your car. I too was toying with the idea of 5mm spacers but dont know whether theymake the car look any different. Could you post a pic of the back of your cab so we can see how much diffrence these make to the stance? Thanks
  21. Does anyone know if a GT3 instrument cluster will fit a 1998 996 C2? the part no for the cluster is 996.641.105.95.70c. Thanks
  22. Hi. Does anyone know how to remove the side vents? These are the ones with the headlight control on the drivers side and a similar plug on the passenger side. I recall there was a trick involved in removing the drivers side. Thanks in advance
