  1. Did the same about 2 years ago. You dont need to cut and solder. A jumper works fine.

  3. Could I have a bit more info about the door panel? I thought that there were specific screws that could be removed to allow the panel to swivel enough to reach the speaker covers. Many have mentioned on various threads here that the panels dont have to be completely removed? Im really confused now-help!!
  4. Hi. Could someone please give me detailed instructions on how to change my current door speaker covers? I have the grey sparkly ones in my MY99 996 C2 and I want to swap them over to silver ones I just bought. I have read Loren's TSB on removing the door panels but it also says this is not necessary to get access to the speakers. Also the UK cars have an alarm system that just keeps going off if the battery is disconnected. I dont fancy mesing around with the airbag. Is it an easy job to change these? If not Ill have to return them. Thanks in advance Ravi
  5. I fitted a traffic pro not so long ago. Thought Id leave the install of the aerial for another day. However there are good instructions I obatined from Loren-maybe he can send you the TSB he sent me. There is an easier way to relocate the aerial I may do in the summer. This is to pass it through the same grommett that the CD player lead enters the car. This would mean you could have the aerial in the front of the car by the cd player, battery etc. At the moment my aerial just sits in the tray below the traffic pro-works fine there! To put it by the windscreen you may well have to take out the defroster trim-it certainly looks like that on the TSB that Loren sent me. This trim just snaps out but you need to note that: 1. If you have a coupe/targa, the A pillar trim and side vents need to be removed to get the defroster trim off. Be very careful with the leather when you snap this out. 2. If this defroster panelling is the original trim you will break off some of the plastic snappers no matter how careful you are! I was going to change mine anyway so it didnt matter. However, i left the snapped off tabs in their holder by accident and had to redo the whole thing again when i thought I had finished :angry: I think after this it is fairly straight forward youll be glad to hear. Its only because of the initial messing around with trim, is why I thought I would just go the CD player opening route. Far easier IMHO. I dont fancy taking it all apart again. Finally, if you dont get any sound coming through your speakers, it will be because the power supply to the traffic pro is different from the OEM radio you have. I have a thread in this forum which shows how to get around this problem-easy when you know how. Good Luck (PS Dont forget to ask Loren for the TSB)

  8. Hi everyone. I need some info on how to remove the tequipment gearstick (with the ali horseshoe at the base) safely. I have a leather coated rear central console and want to remove the gearstick without scratching the leather on this :oops: . I have seen descriptions where it is supposed to just snap off but is there a special sequence of snapping that needs to be followed? I tried to ease it off around the dges but the aliminium horseshoe began to come off and leave the gear gaiter behind! I thought that Jeff/Loren would probably know how to do this most simply!!
  9. Ray, when I did this in my coupe, I had to take off the side pillar trims before I took off the defroster vents. These pillar trims just unclip, but first you will need to take off the coat hooks by the seatbelts. I dont think these are an issue in the boxster or cab. Am I right Jeff?
  10. Yes it is street legal without the switch. My dealership fitted my PSE and said that they automatically weld open all the valves and leave out the quiet switch unless the customer asks for the 2 cutouts. The PSE noise levels comply with the Euro regulations and my dealership said that MOT would be OK. The only thing they will fail you on are litronics rigged up without the harness to control the beam directions. :)

I called up my OPC, and they agreed a deal (I think the price was a little more though) with this chap. I dont know whether he had it fitted in the end or not but all this happened around Chrsitmastime. I am on good terms with the parts/service guys so if I can help a fellow enthusiast will be a pleasure! :)
  12. Hi bigmds. Go for the stock Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE). I too live in the UK and leave before 6am so this was a consideration for me. When I had it fitted, the sound was great and at low revs coming out of my garage there is very little increase in noise at all. I would say that my neighbours motorbikes and souped up astras make more noise than me!! I would not worry about the cut-offf switch-this will take the OPC 9 hours extra labour (compared with 2 for the exhaust fitment alone). You will never use it anyway. I got a good deal with my OPC-about £1100 fitted. Good Luck
  13. I think Loren has a DIY page for this. If not, there was a full article (with pics) in the magazine called "911 and Porsche world" Have a look on their website-The issue in question was a couple of months back and concerned the boxster although Im sure its the same mechanics as a 996. I dont have a scanner so cannot e-mail you with the article.

When I got my P-car, I remember feeling very humble in a way-I was talking to the dealer about how I should drive it, where I should park it etc. I guess I just wanted it to stay perfect with no stone chips and so on.. :oops: Anyway, the dealer just gave me one piece of advice-"Remember its just a car. Use it like one" He was right of course. While we are all glad to have a P-car and enjoy the feeling of owning and driving one, it is after al just a car. It will also lose value like any other car. Even if you just keep it on a plinth and show it to a few lucky visitors, it will only be worth half as much as you paid for it eventually with time. :drive: Enjoy your car and forget about the small accidents life will throw at you from time to time. At least the dealer has fixed them for you at not much monetary cost to yourself. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all. :beer: :king:
