  1. Nope. With PCM1 you only need a DSP amp. and some wiring to make it work, the control unit is build into the PCM system. If you don´t have PCM1 you will need the control modul. The sound is much better with the DSP amp compared to the regular M490 amp.
  2. Does it power up at all ? Blank screen ? You can normally turn on the headunit without any nav cd-rom
  3. My A/C control panel is below the PCM modul. Thought that was standard when you have NAVI / INFO system ??
  4. By the way, I now have the other amp for sale. The M490 (spare number 996.645.323.00. Send me a mail if interested !!
  5. In case you have the Navi/info system installed and the 6 speaker soundpack but no DSP you can add a DSP amp fairly easy. If you "only" got the 6 speaker sound pack it can also be done but is fairly more tricky.(ask if you need help) Actually the biggest thing is to run 2 wires from the amp to the info system. The 2 wires needs to go: 1. From the small black 18 pol connector pin 1 (DSP-GND) on the amp to the blue 26 pol connector pin 6 on the info / navi system. 2. From the small black 18 pol connector pin 17 (DSP-DATA) on the amp to the blue 26 pol connector pin 14 on the info / navi system. The wiring route can be done thru the same way as the CD wires go (if you have that) or you can use the spare ones. In order for the big blue connector to fit the DSP amp you need to cut away the taps on the brown DSP connector on the amp. (see pics). List of items you need. 1. The DSP amp. M680 2. 1 piece of 1 meter 2 pol wire 3. 1 piece of connector pol (000 079 010) cut that in half (used on the info/navi system) 4. 1 piece of connector pol (000 079 009) cut that in half (used on the amp) Install the 2 wires and hopla....you now have DSP available on your screen. There is no doubt that you can hear the improved sound. :jump: Good luck, and fell free to ask if any questions
  6. Okay, I did this mod, but instead of taking the diode out I just released one of the the pins from the printboard, Took a piece of wire (2 pol) and connected a single pol switch in between. Now I can control if I want the mod to work or if everything just work as normal (speed cutoff of the PSE). Switch cost under 1 USD. So this must be the cheapest hack ever :D
  7. Think it would be pretty hard to bend the pin without damaging the relay, or maby if you ever want to undo the mod again you maby break the pin off.
  8. Who has the 996 which have run the most kilometers / miles ? Mine is 80.000 Km, but only 43.000 on this engine.
  9. Super, cool mod. Eddy. I like this way better compared to start cutting a lot of wires. As you said Eddy the 1N4148 is a very well known and used diode, should always be easy to get. If there is to much epoxy on the board side, if you ever want to put it on again, maby just mount in on the print side. Maby the advanced version of this mod would be a little switch so you can actually switch the diode in and out of the circuit. :jump: It would be easy to do.
  10. Okay, should we not all relax now, I am sure it cost money to run this site, and I love to take a look at it almost each day to see what´s up or if I can help someone out there. If people want to donate money to it or not is a personal issue. Right now my money goes to the people in Asia. :( Then this site is next :notworthy: Safe driving out there :drive: ............................... A little later.........My donation should be in progress.
  11. Actually I find it a little bit strange why TSB reports have to be for contributing members only........Why not make the hole page then for contributing members then. Or maby just open up for all.
  12. I think you should keep them red. Yellow is only if you have caramic brakes.........which in that case then looks super cool.
  13. hmm, The voltmeter should never go down to 11 volt. I would consider changing the battery, or at least try with another battery for a few days to see if everything is the same. Everything else you describe sounds normal. Good driving :drive:
  14. I got red calipers on my 996 to......Think it looks great.
  15. I would just like to say welcome to Renntech. In here you will find all the technically help you could ever need for your car. BUT........lets see some pictures of the beast ;-) Welcome, P.Viby
  16. Super, Thanks Loren. Will see if I can test it somehow. Maby heat it up with somekind of airblower. :lightbulb:
  17. Could somebody tell me where the Temp sensor is. I have newer heard or seen the fan running on my car ??
  18. All that talk about best engines..... Are we still talking about cars......... B)
  19. You have to have the DSP Data signal in order for it to work. But either you have the INFO/NAVI system and then you just need the M680 amplifier or you have the "normal" radio and then you also need a DSP receiver unit M680-662. That is the unit I think you "Tool Pants" had a picture of in another topic.
  20. Okay, looks like you have solved the problem. If anybody would be interested I have one M490 amplifier which I would like to sale. Just send me a PM or Email.
