    Same thing.

    It's an H7 HID kit, there's nothing boxster specific about it other than it's H7 which is not Boxster specific either, many cars use H7.

    I bought them from cqlight.ca and they were much cheaper and the results quite stunning. Any old HID kit will work as long as it's H7.

    Yeah. It was your earlier post with pictures and discussion that got my attention. I guess I was thinking that the Epiq kit was specific to the car. Their ad suggests that it is. If not, then your approach seems to be the way to go. Still happy with it?

  2. I understand the value in replacing the plastic window with glass. But I question how much long term benifit there is. I've been looking at my top more closely - while sitting in the seat with the top up- I've noticed some serious wear of the inside of the top near where the mechanisms must rub. So - what is the point of making the rear window last forever if the cloth doesn't and pretty much blows out about the same time?

    Do you guys know the wear I'm talking about? Need pics?

    Also once you develop a couple of small 1/4" cracks in the rear window radiating from the stitches, how long till the whole thing goes?

    I have noticed some wear on the outside near one of the creases. I think it is also from some abrasion as the top goes up and down. The top is more than five years old and is otherwise fine. And the wear is not significant - can hardly see it until standing right on top of it. I don't have any cracks, so can't address that - though I would like to know the answer, too.

    As far as why to go glass:

    With glass there is no need to consider the temp when putting the top up or down.

    I can leave the valley floor in the morning, top down, at 70 degrees. I will be at 8,000 feet in a couple hours where there might be rain, snow, or very cold temps with cloud cover.

    When I get the glass window top, I can drive as far up the hill as I want before putting the top up; I won't have to plan ahead, guess, and be dissapointed later that the top is up, that I put it up thinking it might rain, but it is sunny and not too cool to enjoy driving with the top down or that, not planning ahead, I didn't put it up and I now want it up and the weather is too cool to raise it.

    I think glass will just provide a lot more freedom without worrying about the temp and/or the need to "chop".

    I have gotten home from a drive with the top down, left it down only to find that in the morning I want it up and it is too cold to raise it. I end up with my S.O.'s hair dryer, heating the plastic after the top is half-way up. It's doable, but why bother if there is an alternative that is both elegant and functional?

    I bought the Cab to drive it as a Cab. Practically, though, I also drive it when the weather doesn't favor the Cab. I want the ability to put it up and down easily, and often if necessary, for weather, when pulling into a parking lot to eat or shop, or just because my S.O. insists. Sometimes she's funny that way - and she has earned the right to have it her way, too.

    If you're driving habits aren't impaired with the plastic, then keep the plastic. Isn't it nice to have choices? :jump:

  3. hi all, i have a tomtom one which i have mounted below the stereo. in front of the two trays.i have hard wired it in to the ignition so it has no visible wires. i have even got the porsche splash screen on it. i would like to fit a surround but want to know what materials etc whould be suitable to give it the facory fit look. thanks

  4. I can never get the tank completely full - according to the indicator. :huh: If I set the fill rate at moderate (using the catch on the pump nozzle), it shuts off before the tank is full. If I set the fill rate at minimum, it doesn't shut off - ugly mess with gas shooting out of car. :angry: I'll never do that again. :oops:

    I am aware that over filling can cause problems for one of the smog/fuel systems, I think.

    So, what do others do? :unsure: Do I head out on the road with less than a full tank?

    Hi.

    Pretty sure I read a TSB about that. Contribute the $25 and you can see for yourself. It's well worth the money.

    Many other interesting things along with the specific TSB you need.

    Are you referring to: TSB for the Boxster dated 3/99 2015 Fuel Tank Hose Modification?

    If this TSB came out in '99 and my car is an '01, should I consider that Porsche fixed the problem before my car was made?

    Is there another TSB which you refer to?

  5. This mod seems to activate the main beams (second position of light switch). Anyone know how to only activate the parking beams (first position of light switch)?

    Maybe kind of late, but if anyone is still interested, I did it today. Use the instructions at the link above and make the changes as below.

    I changed the wiring. I made a "Y" with two female connectors wired into one female connector. I used 3 fuse taps, 3,4 & 6. See the picture. This turns on the side markers and the front running lights when the ignitition is on without using the headlight switch.

  7. I currently have 18" Dunlop Sport 9090 all the way around. Picked up a screw in the driver's side rear yesterday. The rear tires are at the wearmarks. The fronts have 3/16" left.

    Anyone have experience comparing Dunlop sport 9090, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS3 and the Michelin PS2?

    Is it time to replace all four? Can I get away with replacing only the rear? And could I replace only the rear with a different tire now, and later replace the front with the same brand?

  9. Do you have any droplets of water in the oil, which would appear on the dip-stick?

    Long long ago, in an auto far far from my mind, I vaguely remember a blown head gasket. Water in the oil appeared as dirty "mayonaise" (cream colored and thick goo) on the inside of the oil filler cap and on the upper reaches of the dip stick.

    You may or may not know that mayonaise is an emulsion of water and oil (egg yolk).

  10. The discussion about the top replacements is getting frustrating.

    I'm not in need of a new top, yet...but expect that I will WANT to replace my plastic windowed top before I NEED to.

    The other threads I've read indicated that the first replacment tops had problems with some of the glass windows seperating from the canvas rather quickly, and that later tops have worked out the problem. Isn't this true?

    Those of you who have had problems with glass leaving the canvas...how recently was the top replaced? Is it one of the early or late ones? Which brand? Are there tensioning issues that contribute to success or failure? What about weather/temperature issues? Who did the replacement - DIY or specialty shop?

    Is there a Porsche replacement for older Boxsters that doesn't require the newer frame?

    Oh so many questions. :cursing: While I'm at it...what about answers to life, the Universe, and everything?

  11. The V1 mirror remote looks pretty good. I have my V1 mounted on the windshield, next to the mirror with the cord run through the molding - out of sight. I don't like that the unit reduces my vision - only a little, but enough to be a pain at times.

    I like the idea of moving the main unit to the rear/center as you have, but don't like the remote placement options. I bought a remote with my unit. I'd like to know what you did to put it in the mirror. Would you care to share? :clapping:
