  1. From eBay, I see a number of these available, look to be pretty much all the same blue anodized piece with chrome shift handle. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...A%3AIT&rd=1 Do they work well, and feed back from those that have tried them, etc. Thanks, Al
  2. I have a factory wind deflector and mounting kit, still waiting for the baskets to arrive. I thought that I read that the roll bars were pre-drilled, but I don't see the holes? Do the mounting clips go under the padding, and if so how does it come off? Or is this just the case of "do your best the center and drill your own holes"? Any assistance appreciated... Al
  3. my recommendation.... Don't do it! There are few if any gains to be had, the car's are great the way they are. just my 2 cents.
  4. Go to http://www.xenonmods.com. The have wet/dry decals. When I painted my calipers red in February, I ordered the 3.5" x .25" decals, which are actually 0.25" wider than OEM, but look good. Hope this helps. What do you mean by: "They have wet/dry decals"
  5. First off, I have a non-S boxster but the principle is the same... Fronts start at 24mm replace at 22mm, rears start at 20mm and replace at 18mm My '03 has only 39,000 kms and the fronts are at 22mm and the rears 19mm... :eek: So based on the comment from KevinC, based on a wear spec of 1mm per surface, 2mm total, the fronts are wearing at twice the rate of the rear rotors. I am considering replacing all of the rotors and pads.

  7. hmmm, sounds like it is a fact of life with these cars? They do clear themselves but I was worried it wsa indicative of a problem. Is there a way to get them apart to clean in there?

  9. MY03, in the morning or after a rain, there is a lot of moisture inside of the light assemblies, this also leaves a haze on the inside of the plastic lens. What is causing this and is there a way first clean them and then prevent it from coming back? The pictures I took this morning aren't the best but should give you the idea... Thanks

Thanks for the reply Kevin, nope, no track time for me likely. hmmm, There are drilled and drilled/slotted Zimmerman's available for a reasonable money, I just had the brakes checked and there is 60% friction material left on the rear and 40% on the front, as for the rotors themselves, the fronts are down to 22mm and the rears 19mm. So it would appear that I have a little time on everything, however where I live it does rain a lot in the winter (BC's west coast and that first chance to stop may be the most important!), so hence my interest in 'modified rotors' for my03. I would think in general I am pretty easy on brakes, and would welcome the performance look of the Zimmermans... Al
  11. Looking for some feedback on these types of rotors for my03 non-S... I like the look of the drilled rotors and understand the additional benifits the holes provide, but would like to hear opinions on them all. My plan would be to replace the pads (Mintex Red Box with sensors) and rotors at the same time. Thanks, Al

Thanks Joee, I will likely be the guy doing all of the work, I will check the pads on all 4 corners to see where they are at regarding wear, a used car report dated April 2006 said the front pads were at 9.5 mm and the rears 8 mm. The thing that I saw on the caliper that made me wonder about pad thickness was the 1cm diameter pin just ahead for the pads that seems quite close to the rotor surface? BTW, what does DE stand for? Al
  13. warping under the heat of DE's?? Al Does any one know what the thickness of the stock pads are (assuming of course the ones on the car are stock!) Maybe I can get away with just replacing the rotors? thanks

  15. I just checked my brakes (MY03 (non-S) with 39,000 km's), it would appear to me that they are close to done!? According to the markings on the rotors, front minimum thickness is 22mm and rear 18mm. Sound right? My front rotors are at 22mm Passenger side and 22.4mm drivers side. My rear rotors are at 19mm passenger side and 19.3mm drivers side. As for the pads, I'll look for the report that came with the car, but visually inspecting them and looking at what I think is a sensor or wear indicator (1 cm rod projecting towards the rotor just ahead of the pad?) there doesn't appear to much more then 1 or 2 mm left. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome for this Porsche newbie! Al

  17. Well I got the tip off, broke the bolt doing it and had to drill it out, after getting the tip mostly polished, I decided to beadblast it back to a satin finish for now. Does anybody know what material the muffler box as seen in the picture above is made of? Al
  18. Took out the head light assy, yep definitely the amber filter syle on mine, currently a clear bulb with 180 degree pins.
  19. After reading the other article in the DYI section about removing the amber lens filter, I looked again at my car... It looks to me like the only thing that is orange there is the bulb, did this change at some point? Could this be true? Also, there appears to be a slight haze inside of the head light lens, almost like moisture has dried there leaving spots etc. Is there any safe way to clean this up? Al
  20. Now I want the same look, but I'll have to look and see if MY03 has the amber lens or amber filter... I was about to purchase 4 silver bulbs...
  21. CT was the first place I checked, not even behind the counter... Leaning towards the silver bulbs, appearently they are actually chrome plated.
  22. For #1, the minimum thickness is stamped on the rotor hat. You probably have to remove the wheel the read it. It will be embossed in the hat and might be quite hard to find. I have had issues with Zimmerman rotors warping on my '01S and resorted to buying Porsche OEM ones. However, the last set of OEM rotors I bought did not have the coated hat and they developed severe cracking between the holes. If you go with drilled and slotted, expect to replace them and your pads (the holes and slots act like a cheese-grater unless champfered properly. #2, I just take the bulb to my local auto parts store and get the generic equivalent. Good Luck, Graeme thanks Graeme, the place that sells the rotor said that they only increase the wear by 10%, BTW I thought that Zimmerman made the Porsche OEM rotors? I tried the auto parts stores for the bulb, no one had it. I saw a post on another forum that Mercedes sells the same bulb for $1.83! I plan to call in there tomorrow. Otherwise I have found a source for the bulb with a silver coating (still lights up orange) so the white light din't reflect the amber of the bulb... Al
  23. Regarding my03 (non - S): 1) replacing the rotors to Zimmerman drilled and sloted, good idea, problems? (also what is the minimum rotor thicknes for the front and rear's on a my03) 2) bulbs, sheesh the dealer wants $11.56 Cdn. for the turn signal bulb (PY21W)? Are they always that expensive? I see them on eBay for that much a pair... any caveats on these? Thanks, Al
