  1. There are some kits out there that have the bulb adjusted so that the focal length is the same as the stock halogen bulb. You don't get nearly as much stray light. The distance was about the same as the stock halogen, but it was much brighter though. I had used one of those kits when I had a Toyota Supra and it worked out pretty good.

  2. I think the lens melting comes from the folks who use those higher wattage white bulbs (80w+). The aftermarket HID ballast and bulb kits are actually lower wattage (35w vs 55w) than halogen bulbs.

That being said, the stock halogen lenses are not designed for the HID light, as stated earlier, the light dispersion and cutoff aren't going to be ideal. You'll have a lot of stray light, there are some kits that have the bulbs focal length adjusted, so that will help minimize it. So although you will increase the quantity of the light, the quality of the light you'll get won't be significally better.

  3. Thanks TP, my sensor is a "trimble" or so, it ftis within the standat location, but I'm not sure how to remove the mounting plate for the sensor I it really safe to pop up the left side defroster trim a bit?

    Will Nothing break?

For the access, I have removed the entire center console so I have a big hole in the dash ;-)

When I put my GPS sensor in, I was able to loosen the bracket that the IR sensor in place and drop the wire in that way instead of going through the defroster vents. This drops the wire directly behind the radio.

  4. First off, thanks to everyone who has contributed to the wealth of information on the Traffic Pro here. From the archives, it appears the TP4763 is a straight swap for the CDR220 in a 2000 986S except for the speed and reverse wires. I have everything working on the TP but it does not see the CDC3 changer. I've checked the settings for AUX and it's disabled. I'm beginning to believe I have a defective TP. Is there anything special I have to do to get the CDC3 enabled? It works fine with the old CDR220. Thanks.

No, there isn't anything special you need to do for the TrafficPro to recognize the cd-changer. When we plugged mine in and it saw it right away. I added the changer in after the TP.

  5. Hi,

I need to get an esaypass for my 2000 Boxster. Is there any metal in the windshield of the Boxster that should make me get the easypass that bolts to the license plate? When I drove it home from the purchase, it(my other car's easypass) didn't work on the PA Turnpike holding it in the window.

    Thanks,

    Jon

We've got Fastrak here in California (similar to the EZPass) and I haven't had any issues using it. I place mine in lower corner of the windshield on the driver's side.

  6. 3. CD changer quit working - replaced with new changer, but still doesn't work.  Toolpants going to help me troubleshoot by swapping the radio unit.

    4. The "Double Beeps" when locking with the remote control - I am still working on this problems.

    6. Driver side sun visor mirror won't stay up - things to fix.

How about your Boxster ?  Am I the only one having these problems this year ?

    3. I've got a good working CDR220 that I have out of my car that I can bring to the next work on cars day to isolate if it is the head unit itself.

    4. I'd check the center console between the seats. Frequently I open it to get something out but don't close it all the way to where it clicks and get that.

    6. When you take apart the mirror, you will find that the small metal "U" shaped clips popped out. I epoxed them back into place and it has been fine for a while now. I went ahead on the other mirror and did the same thing.

  7. I believe that Pentosin CH11S is the same as VW/Audi's G002000. It is more expensive to buy the VW stuff than to buy Pentosin. I think I bought mine locally at Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley for about $14 for my VW when I had a slight power steering leak. But that was about 4 years ago. I'll swing by and see if they still carry it and how much it is.

  8. I ran into a similar situation where I didn't have the radio code card either. However, right before I took it to the dealer to get the code, I found it on one of my service orders.

However, I found out that You can use the TP method to get the unit's serial number from the unit and contact Becker North America parts department. They can be reached at (888) 423-3537x1209.

  9. I've got the amp in the trunk, so for my install, I need to splice connector A Pin 5 to connector C Pin 6. On the CDR-220 and the Porsche Traffic Pro, Connector C Pin 6 is the Amp power on signal, on the HK, that connector is subwoofer out.

As Henry says, probably the hardest part is connecting the reverse wire. It will work fine without it as long as you don't ground it. My understanding is where it will make a difference is if you are in an area that there isn't any GPS coverage and you drive in reverse, the system will not know you are going reverse and think you are going forward. However, once you receive the GPS signal, it should correct for it.

Henry: You gave in and got it, huh?
