how to remove GPS sensor cover?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I tried to pull but it wont come out, is there something I miss?

I would like to put my GPS sensor over there like it's on factory,

but I don't know if my sensor is small enough, maybe someone has de dimensions of the factory sensor, so I would eventualy need to remove the cover if mine is bigger!

thank you

ok I've been able to remove it, but now I wouldhave to remove the older of the gps antenna, I removed the 2 torx screws but it doesn't come of, it looks like it too large, should I remove one of the trim pieces one the left of the right to remove it?

I have to route the GPS antenna cable that's why I have to remove it.

thank you

Yes you have to pop up the left side defroster trim a bit to get the mounting plate out. The trim is just held in with spring clips, so just stick a putty knife under it and pry up a bit.

Routing the GPS cable down to where the radio is can be a tight fit. What I found worked for me was to tape the end of the cable to a clothes hanger wire and push it down between the defroster ducts and the back of the area where the radio goes. It is only 3-4 inches, but it is a very tight fit to get the connector through. The defroster ducts are soft and will move out of the way as you push the cable through.

Thanks TP, my sensor is a "trimble" or so, it ftis within the standat location, but I'm not sure how to remove the mounting plate for the sensor I it really safe to pop up the left side defroster trim a bit?

Will Nothing break?

For the access, I have removed the entire center console so I have a big hole in the dash ;-)

When I put my GPS sensor in, I was able to loosen the bracket that the IR sensor in place and drop the wire in that way instead of going through the defroster vents. This drops the wire directly behind the radio.

just to confirm as I am attempting to remove these defroster trims (left and right) at the moment.  I can just lever them up and out and nothing will break?

seems very tightly in place???

It depends on their age and amount of time in the sun. Sometime the clips will break - sometimes the plastic. IMHO it is better do do the removal when the dash area is a little warm from the sun.

I am trying to do this now also. So the IR Sensor in the middle of the dash will POP out if I squeeze from both sides to compress the attaching tabs a little bit. Once I do this I can snake the wire down behind the radio to attach it to the back of the radio? My GPS antennae has a magnetic base.
