  1. I replaced my fronts because there were crack lines running between the holes. I also had some wear marks on them after I did Laguna Seca. This track needs alot of brakes. I was also running blue racing brake pads. Paul
  2. Go to the site on top of this picture and you can get alot of information for a 996 car. Looks like you might need some special tools. You will need a transmission plate. Maybe you could measure one and fabricate your own. Paul
  3. I have a supercharger for a 997 that I want to sell. The supercharger will require an upgrade of the oil seperator. The supercharger I have was taken off because the filter blew in the oil seperator and blew oil into the throttle body. Paul

  7. Hi Loren, I want to phone Sunset Imports and order the passenger side mirror bracket that works as a spring hinge. One of the levers on the hinge broke. Can you get me the part number? Thanks again, Paul
  8. The cars are not dailed in at the factory. I would take it to a shop that can align cars. I took mine to the dealer (Carlsen Porsche). They had an expert on setting up cars. A little camber can make a big difference on the track. Look for an expert. Paul
  9. I have been under my TIP transmission and I could not reach the top nuts. Good luck. Paul
  10. I replaced a set of front rotors. I think they cost about $100 each. Not bad for a Porsche part. Use Sunset Imports for the best price. Paul
  11. Is this the instructions for removing the side mirror? Just unclip the mirror and disconnect the heating wires. You will see 3 Torx screws which hold the shell on to the mirror mounting frame. Undo them, and swivel the unit towards the door. Then you can unclip the bottom plastic cover, and slide the shell over the mirror mounting frame. It's all very easy and fairly obvious once you have taken the mirror off. These came from the 996 forum. Paul
  12. There sure looks like very little room to work on the nuts on the top of the transmission. Post some pictures. Paul
  13. That statement is not true. Only cars that sit for very long periods of time where the seals dry up, moisture gets into the car, and/or they get attacked by rodents have "sitting" problems. My RMS leaks about 2 drops per week in the summer and stops in the winter as the seal expands with the temperature. Certainly not worth the trouble to replace IMHO. This statement was made by a Porsche mechanic. It was his observation that cars that sit around tend to need fixing. This is not my statement. Paul
  14. These cars are made to be driven. A mechanic told me that cars that sit have more problems. I suggest you spend more time driving your car once it is repaired. Paul
  15. The 2006 has a smaller outside diameter cable from the 2007 model for the alternator. Hope you enjoy your new car. Paul
  16. Replacing the clutch is a piece of cake when the motor is out. It's like removing eight bolts and putting the new clutch in. Also replace the throw out bearing. About 15 minutes of labor. Paul
  17. They should cover it. Ask for a hard ship case and see if that works. Make sure and replace the clutch disk if you have one. Paul
  18. The PTM transmission explains the difference compared with the 996 Turbo. Sounds like the Porsche Engineers solved the problem for the 997 Turbo. All this means is you need to buy a 997 turbo and sell the 996 4S. Paul
  19. Here is the info for a 911 Turbo. Looks like you can order a limited slip differential with this car. I still do not think this will help when driving on ice. Paul
  20. My best guess is that one front tire spun and maybe one rear tire spun, Paul
  21. I have 5mm on my car. You would not notice it unless someone told you. The wheel bolts are longer. You can add bigger ones but it is not recommended by the factory. If you are going for looks, don't waste your money. I do not think they make much of a difference on the track either. One other comment. It makes curb rash alot easier. Paul
  22. The AWD does not work like what you think it should work. My brother had the same problem as you. He tried to go up his icey drive way and the car lost traction. It slid backwards and damaged his tail pipe. He has a 2006 997 4S. Your car is a active AWD and that is the problem. Old 4 wheel drive trucks required the driver to get out of the truck and lock the front hubs. Then the fronts would pull and the rears would pull. Your car has a front differential and a rear differential. There is no way to lock the differential. One front wheel can spin and the other front wheel does nothing. Hope this clears up your question. I am sure that everything is hooked up fine. Paul
  23. This is not normal. The only time the car will shift up by computer is when it is near redline and it takes a couple of laps around the track before the car will shift on its own. Sounds like you have a computer software problem. Lets hope that they can re-flash the computer and fix every thing. Paul
