  1. To remove the bose speakers, you pry off the plastic covers for letting air into the box. Then remove two torx screws. The box then lifts off. Last you disconect the speaker wires. Paul
  2. It is not a job for someone with very little experience. It is very hard job to do. I would sand the plate that the cable connects to under the car. Jack up the car and stick a jack stand under the car.. Disconnect the battery. Undo the nut with a 11mm or 13mm(I do not remember the size). Then sand the plate and the alternator cable. I have incluced a picture with an arrow where the plate is. It is on the passenger side. Paul
  3. Sounds like a noisy throw out bearing. When you are at a stop light, do you keep the car in gear and keep the clutch pedal pushed? Suggest you put the car in neutral at stop lights. This will make the throw out bearing last longer. Paul
  4. If your car is a tiptronic, The mechanics go under the car and pop the pin that holds the cable to the top of the transmission with a very long piece of metal. There is a big transmission cooler on top of the trans that makes replacing the cable extremly hard. A manual is easier but still requires removing the air intake on top of the motor. Either price looks right. Paul
  5. I looked but it looks like one part. Here is a picture. Maybe you could take a picture. Paul
  6. Sounds like the alternator cable. The 997-2 has a bigger cable then the 997-1. You can try sanding the post that the cable ties to. It is under the car on the pasenger side where the motor meets the transmission. A lot of road dirt gets to the contact. Paul
  7. My brother installed them. You could phone Eric with the size hole and see what he can do. You can remove the plugs real easy after they are pushed in the holes. This would give you a fast and not to expensive fix. There is a dupont kit for filling holes in your bumper. You add tape to the back of the holes. Then you fill the hole with the sealent. Then you sand for a long time. Last thing you do is paint, sand, paint clear, and wax. Paul
  8. I would also phone Eric at Bumper Plugs. The plugs are like 20 dollars. Paul
  9. Your welcome. If you join this site, I am sure the librian can get you the 997 instructions. It is the best $25 you will spend. The 996 should be close but sometimes there is a screw that is different. The tabs for the vents are in a little different area but close to the 996 tabs. Paul
  10. Line 6 may not have the berring yet, but we know that they are working on it. By the time you need one, they will have one. Some things just take time and demand to make. Paul
  11. With the motor out already, it makes sense to buy a new clutch. I think another name for the pressure plate is the throw out berring. I would also get the larger alternator wire installed. The 997-2 has a thicker alternator wire then the 997-1. It is very easy to replace when the motor is out. The wire itself should be $60 from the dealer. You could buy one from Sunset for $40 and then have the dealer put it on. This will improve the hard starting when the battery gets old. Paul
  12. It is a small piece of plastic that snaps together. Use something small to prey the pieces apart. Good luck. The 996 site shows you how to cover the trunk button with tape. Look there if you need more details. Paul
  13. I think your clutch is OK but I would take it easy for a few hours. I know that most Italian drivers drive very fast. I once had a taxi driver rush me to the airport at 110 mph through a lot of traffic. It was some small car. Paul
  14. I knew I read about this. It was in the 996 section. This should get you started. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/topic/34536-definitive-dash-removal-guide/page__p__182863__hl__%2Bdash+%2Bremoval__fromsearch__1#entry182863 Paul
  15. I did a 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Looking at the graph, i think this would work to a 14.4 in the quarter mile. Paul
  16. Most people push the button in their pocket. One fix is to cover the trunk button with tin foil so it does not work. Look in the 996 section. Paul
  17. This site shows you how to replace the IMS. http://www.flat6innovations.com/ I feel these cars(2006) are great up to 60,000 miles. Then add some motor upgrades. Paul
  18. Join this site and you can get a manual. Even the dealer can make mistakes because there are so many models and the German Engineers always do things a little different. Did you notice the ingnition key on the left? Paul
  19. The part 17 turns the plastic thing that sticks out of the lock. I think the plastic part is broken. I do not have a real good picture of the plastic part but it does fit into the unlocking stuff. Paul
  20. When you buy a bumper, you need to then paint it. I bet the side skirts are the same way. Paul
  21. I think it is the cam chain guide. I have seen a picture of a broken one but I can't find it. I would call Flat 6 and see what they think. They sell a replacement cam chain guide that is made stronger. http://www.flat6innovations.com/ Paul
  22. I found the control unit. It is number 23 in the picture. It is part #996-618-171-03. I have no idea where this goes in the car. If you got this installed and ran the wires to the sensors, you still would need to take your car to the dealer so the computer could be set to read the control unit. Paul
  23. Sounds like you have done everything right. My only guess would be to install new street pads. You could also get in a big lot and run the car in reverse up to 25 mph and then slam on the brakes. Good luck. Paul
