  1. Took the car in, appears the leak was from the oil drain seal. Replaced the leaking seal along with new Mobil1 synthetic oil. Back to normal driving now. :drive:
  2. Thank you for the quick info. Is this a fairly easy fix? I won't most likely be able to perform the fix myself so I'll probably be taking it into EuroSport which is literally down the street from me. Can I still drive the car at this current state? Anything in particular that I need to worry or lookout for if I should continue to drive it?
  3. Greetings Folks, I just noticed a couple of spots on my garage floor today. Before I bring her to the doctor, what could you all help identify as the leak based on my pictures I just took? I noticed this really oily spot under the driver-side rear near the part where it says VarioCam. Thank you for all of your help!!! :o

  6. 99 Tip with 53k... Leaky Coolant Tank Cap replaced... Everything else runs great however I've only put like 2k a year on the car......it's never seen rain or snow since I purchased it. And yes, she is a garage queen. :renntech:

  9. I searched the forum on this topic to no avail.. I currently own a 99 c2 and am looking at upgrading to a 996TT. Below is a snapshot of the reliability from consumer reports. What are your suggestions on the best yr to purchase a 996TT? Thx all!
  10. Ironically these silver stem caps are the ones that have gotten stolen repeated whereever I have been parking....I really like them and the local dealer sells them at 17.50/set. Thanks for the other recommendations!
  11. Hi All- I've owned my 996/C2 for several years now and I must say it has been one of the best cars I've ever owned. I can't say that I've driven this car anywhere near it's performance limits. Ultimately I would like to track the car and really indulge in a few lessons where I can truly experience it's wonderful potential!!! So here's the latest concern I've encountered. I have had numerous cases where my valve stem caps have all been stolen. I've had to purchase new porsche stem caps and my local dealer recommended that I torque the caps with a wrench. Obviously applying torque didn't work for me, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this. So I decided to replace the caps with plain ugly janes ones for now. The other day both of my amber corners were stolen along with center crested caps. All of these petty crimes have lead me to think twice before I park my car anywhere nowadays (it really shouldn't be like this). I'd consider myself a jack of all trades and master of what's important to me at this very moment :rolleyes: So here's the scoop on my latest project, I'm considering a DVR surveillance for my car. I've been fascinated with DVR technology for the longest time and have monkey'd with DVR technology as a hobby. I've self-installed a fully functional 16-cam setup at the house which includes wireless technologies, infraRed, and all sorts of triggers for notification. I hardly ever review the video, but there have been times where my setup has come in handy (neighbors dog pooping in my yard....JK) hehehe... Ok so there are several technology options available nowadays on the market. As the portable DVR market is reaching maturity, solid state memory devices is finally within reach for consumers and small businesses. I've been tinkering with the idea of installing several mini-cameras in my car that can interface with a portable DVR. What's the max allot time necessary for recording? How many fps? What are the environmental condition concerns? (i.e. day vs night, weather, etc...) What area within the car would give you the best coverage and camera angle? My approach is to create test cases where I could run through several iterations to verify if in fact any of them fail. Let's say I start with a 2cam infraRed (nightvision) setup (360 view?), 16GB microSD mem= 6hrs record?, and min 30fps. So the whole setup will run off of Li-ion battery and intend to be completely discrete to a potential thief. I can review the recorded video by simply popping the microSD card right out of the portable DVR and into my blackberry/pda/digital camera/etc.....essentially the video could be easily reviewed and forwarded... I know this whole setup might sound like overkill for a few stupid occurrences of smalltime crimes, but nonetheless a challenge and maybe an educational serving for my technical appetite. I also like the idea of leveraging this technology for recording on the track. Why not integrate a complete system that can give you video, security, and the visibility to determine fault in an accident (or not by simply disabling the setup while driving). Alright, enough of my coffee driven rant this morning.....let's bring some thought leadership to this topic. There is nothing special about the Porsche charger except you pay for the label...most maintainers work the same way....save the dough. oh c'mon....i love my pCar...and besides what's 50 bucks, it's like 2 stiff drinks here in the city. as an enthusiast, why go generic? you know, there really is no substitute......oh well to each their own :P
  13. My car has never seen rain or snow. During the winter months here in Chicago, I've gone as long as 6 weeks without starting up the car. I bought a porsche battery maintainer from SunCoast and updated my Cigarette Outlet to a later version and have never had any battery/starting issues. It really keeps the battery charged, I would spend the extra $50 bucks and get the better Porsche charger. :renntech:

  19. It just been recent that I noticed my steering wheel has been shaking between 60-75mph. (I've been thinking alignment, bad tires, etc....) I was dusting the wheels today and noticed this :angry: I just got my wheels balanced like a week ago, it's obvious that a bent front wheel can't be fixed with offsetting wheel weights. Continental SportContact2 Tires Front Tire Size: 225/40/ZR18 Rear Tire Size: 285/35/ZR18 What are the thickest and widest tires I could put on my narrow 996 c2? (18x8F, 18x10R) What are my repair options? Will repairing the wheel be even close to OEM? How about purchasing a new front wheel? If so, any suggestions on the best place to ship/exchange/etc?!?! Sorry for all the questions, but I am just pissed off and needing to vent at the moment!!!! <_< Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

  21. PS88, Nice job and your pics have convinced me its time to perform same clean-up operation. Amazing how much debri collects in those airflow ducts and radiators. OBTW, looks like you might have your front alignment checked as your left front tire appears to be wearing on inside tread ( camber set too high for track purposes??). ;) demosan I purchased my 996 c2 about a yr ago with 48k on it. Right before I purchased it, the dealer replaced a tie-rod. I don't feel any significant alignment issues, but I do notice some minor steering shake between 60-75mph. I'm planning on ordering a new set of tires soon, guess I better get the alignment checked at that time as well......
  22. Yep, Zenith Blue. I've been keeping an eye on the temp gauge and it's significantly lowered my temp when sitting in traffic idle here in Chicago....
