  1. Iv'e had all sorts of smells over the last 4 years. Could the smell be simply break dust or even rubber from the tyres (especially the rears). Non-Porsche approved break pads smell like burning oil. I have been down that route before unfortunately....never again. Other thing to think about is the fuel your using. Diesel smells awful :jump:
  2. Jerry, the wire is within the biggest bunch of wires you have ever seen in a loom. The grey/pink one was thankfully on the outside of the bunch in my case. dig deep it is there.
  3. Could it be the airbag may have blown in the past (maybe an accident) and was never replaced.
  4. Cheers Poursha.....just thought I would contribute some ;) Notice I put your "light" mod in. Works a treat. I have a few more DIYs planned: Fitting an aftermarket audio power amp and sub (and false bonnet floor) Fitting the Parrot CK bluetooth adaptor. Wiring an iPod direct. Wiring both sided rear fog lamps. These are mods I have already done but can easily reverse engineer for instructional purposes. All being well (and weather permitting), coming soon.
  5. There's a switch in the drivers side footwell fusebox that allows you to manually raise and lower the tail. Problem is while your driving it is not very easy (or safe) to locate it. So here's the install procedures for fitting an in-dash tail switch. Why would you want to do this: Well the tail automatically lifts as 75mph and automatically lowers at 38mph. The problem with this is that 75mph is 5mph above the national speed limit here in the UK. The police have cottoned on to this feature. If they see a carrera with the tail up they'll book you for speeding. One way to get around this is to fit the tail switch in your dash. Then if the police pull you over for speeding all you have to say is "but ociffer, I luv posing around with my tail up. See this switch, well I just flip it and up comes the tail. I wuz only doing 45 honest" And of course you were only doing 45 ;) Here's the link: http://ljgs.org/.ceemee/pcar/Scouser/diy/tailsw/index.HTML
  6. There are aftermarket clutches available. But as far as I know Porsche will not fit them. They only fit their own Porsche approved "new" parts that they will provide warranty on. I say "new" because they won't fit used parts either.....as I experienced with my gearbox recently. I found a gearbox that had only done 800 miles and was a clean as the ones on their shelves. But they would not entertain it. (BTW: I am not implying you should contemplate a used clutch).
  7. Well there ain't much in it. I would say that m3 has slightly more power but the carerra has way better handling. But the m3 is fuggly as hell. What would you rather be driving. A porsche or an m3 ;)
  8. Does the Porsche coolant contain anti-freeze? Also, is this coolant resevoir the same thing as what we call header tank? I had the header tank replaced a few weeks back. I assume they replaced the coolant at the same time, and I assume it contains anti-freeze?
  9. In a LHD car, which side is the PSM switch and the fuse box? Thnxs Berny
  10. Le chef, notice my 996 is blue ;) No it onlyseems to screech at cold start. Will have the belts checked. Thnxs.
  11. Yea I thought belt too but it only had a service 2 months back (3k miles). you would think they checked the belts. Where is the air pump. Is this something i should be worried about? It's going in for its 2nd RMS in a few weeks so I will get them to check it then. Just thought maybe you would know what it would be. Cheers, Berny
  12. OK will do. I will take some pics of Poursha's mod to add to it. Cheers
  13. Its been frequent days below zero here. My car is garaged but it's still very cold. Just noticed that on the odd occasion, when i start the car, I hear a loud screeching sound. It goes away immediatly the car is started. No warning lights show. Car starts always 1st time. No smoke. Idles perfectly. Just a real loud screem for about 2 seconds. It seems to happen only when the car is cold. It happens occasionally and not always. in fact I have tried many times to record the sound but it just refuses to screech when I want to record it  Any ideas what it could be?
  14. Hey Poursha, Good one. I did this mod a few weeks back and I meant to ask how you got it to light up. I will get to this tommorow. Question: I have noticed that when I am driving along (below 75mph) and I switch the tail up, it seems to have a mind of its own in regards when to retract the tail again. Sure I can manually retract it. But if I drive around and happen to look in my mirror, it has sometimes retracted all on its own. I know that in the normal case, it auto lifts at 75mph and auto retracts at 38mph (I think). But if I manually lift it with the switch it sometimes stays up all day and sometimes it might auto retract after a while. This normally happens while street driving (i.e., below 75mph). Any ideas what should happen if you manually lift it? BTW: Loren, Jeff, when I did this switch install I took a pile of pictures in an effort to put a DIY page together. Is this something that would be useful?
  15. Thanks Loren, i will get it ordered tommorow.....asuming they are working on Xmas eve ;) Happy holidays and many thanx Berny
  16. Thanks Poursha. I checked it and I see the connector but no light. No wonder I never missed it tucked under that fan housing. Just a completely empty slot where the light should be. Loren I need to order this. The wiring is there and I checked with a voltmeter andpower is there at the connector. Any ideas on part number? Cheers, Berny
  17. So here's a strange one for y'all. Friend was over last night. He has a boxter but he came in his wife's car. Anyway, hew was admiring my car and when he looked into the engine bay the first thing he said was where's the light. Search me I said? I have had the car almost 4 years and I guess since its never had one I didn't know it's supposed to be there. So my question is where is the light supposed to be in the rear engine bay? Why would it be missing? Probably forgot to add it on the manufacturing line. Pictures would be cool. Part numbers and wiring diag would be even better. Cheers, Berny
  18. Got it thanks guys. Know which one your talking about now. Pitty I have a cab....... Some guy has one on ebay.......no bids yet and going cheap. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...gory=14771&rd=1
  19. All I know is that it's a spoiler for a 996. Will it fit a cab? Any pictures?? Cheers Loren. 996 512 901 00
  20. Any chance you could post pics of the caps themselves. Cheers
  21. Double thanks. I think I am best getting them to fix this when I get the gearbox replaced.
  22. My 30k status report says: O/S/F Air Scoop damaged. What is this? Is it the air deflector or air splitter? I had a look and I only see a small crack. Is this something I should worry about? Cheers again
