  1. Loren, I am dropping my 2001 996 with Tip transmission off today to have the transmission serviced as you recommended before due to the Tip shifting working intermittently and not consistent. I am having a very hard time finding the Porsche recommended ATF for my 2001 996. Many searches end up talking about a manual transmission or a 996.2 instead of mine. Do you have any recommendations for a reference point or for the fluid? I read that Pelican is suggesting ATF 6. But someone mentioned that is not approved by Porsche and they are recommending due to Pentosin no longer producing ATF 1. I am amazed that it is so difficult to just search and find the proper ATF for a specific model. Any help or advice as to where I can search would be appreciated. Thanks, Todd
  2. Thanks again. Just for the fun of it, when I get some time I will search around for the receiver to see where it was mounted and to determine if it was a detector or jammer. The main wire looks like it is leading to the front of the car. So I will start there just to see what someone previously installed.
  3. JFP, Thanks. That finally makes since. I have turned that darn knob a million times since I bought the car trying to determine if it was connected to a hidden bass speaker or something else. But I just bought and installed a Cobra radar detector this past week. So maybe, based on what you said, my new detector woke up the old technology K40??? Everything I have found talking about them pretty much says they are obsolete now. Thanks for your time and info. Todd
  4. In doing some more research I have found someone that mentioned that found an odd knob or dial in his 996 that was installed on the right side of the driver's footwell. He tracked it to a K40 radar detector. I have only had the car for 1 1/2 years. Maybe unknowingly I have a radar detector that was previously installed? The chirping and beeping would make sense regarding how my Cobra detector has chirps and beeps depending on the radar signal. That still doesn't explain why it just started happening. I did pull the panel off in my footwell and found a lot of post-production wiring associated with that knob. To stay simple I removed a fuse from an inline fuse compartment. When I turned the ignition the sounds was gone. Maybe coincidentally or maybe I solved the mystery of the magical knob "and" the chirping and beeping???
  5. Hello, I have a 2001 996 cabriolet that I drive daily. I was on my way home this afternoon and heard a beeping noise that sounds like it is coming from the alarm sensor on the dashboard. When I got home I turned the car off and then started it again to see if something reset and the beeping stopped. Instead... after I started the car there was some chirping noises and then the beeps started again sounding like they are still coming from on top of the dash and maybe from or near the alarm sensor. I notices that when the chirping was happening that the red lights below my heater display lit up and then went off when the chirping stopped and the beep started. Also, there is a green light lit in between the two red lights. The green light now stays on until I turn off the car. But that is new and has never happened. I actually didn't even realize there were lights below the heater display. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  6. Loren, Thanks so much for the information and advice. I will pass the info on to my Porsche tech and will schedule the ATF service with my oil change coming up soon. I truly appreciate your help and time. Thank you, Todd
  7. Loren, Thanks for your time and reply. I purchased the car in March of 2023 and have not changed the ATF. I went through CarFax and found some maintenance details. But nothing regarding the transmission being serviced. I am due for an oil change in about 1,500 miles and my Porsche tech did recommend me getting the transmission serviced. Question: Could the ATF needing to be changed potentially cause my Tip to occasionally not allow me to shift manually with the paddles? If the above ATF change/transmission servicing does not solve the issue, it also sounds like you feel we should potentially start replacing solenoids. It is my understanding that there is one that is fairly easy to get to externally and thus less expensive to replace than one that is deeper in. So maybe start there and see how that does. Thanks again for your time and advice. I am interested to know if the ATF could really be the cause of the issue. Todd
  8. I have a 2001 996 with the Triptronic transmission. Whether i shift to M or D I tend to have problems with the Tip paddles allowing me to shift. Some days it works perfect and I am able to manually shift in M and D perfectly. Then the next time I get in the car it may work until I get 5 minutes down the road and then it defaults into auto-shift mode and will not let me manually shift using the paddles. I have tried debug by disconnecting the battery and resetting. Sometimes when it will not let me shift I have tried to turn the car off and back on. But that doesn’t work. Then there are times when it is not working/manually shifting and after a stoplight the Tip shifting is functional again??? Does anyone have any advice for me and my technician? Thanks
  9. Hello, I also have a 2001 996 and had the same PSM/ABS issue. I found that 90% of the time it is a signal that you need to replace your MAF sensor. I didn’t want to spend ~$200 on a MAF and it not be the solution so I ordered an aftermarket MAF sensor on Amazon for around $50-$75 and installed it in 20 minutes. It solved everything immediately. I highly suggest you give it a shot. And the site I ordered from allowed free returns so if you immediately don’t feel the effects, you’re not out any money because you can just return the part. Hope this helps.
  10. The code worked perfectly. Thanks so much for your quick and valuable help!
  11. Loren, Sorry for the redundancy with a second post but I just found this topic thread for requesting help with radio codes after I sent a separate message to you earlier. Below is the information in my original post. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Hello, I just replaced the battery in my 2001 996 cabriolet and I do not have the stereo code. Would you be able to help please? CDR-220 Type: 4462 Serial #: Y5053833 Thank you!
