  1. I used to own an '05 Speed Yellow Carrera S. I traded it in on an '03 996TT with 7K miles. Still glad I did. There is nothing like turbo boost and I wish I would have discovered that ten years ago. One more thing, these turbos are so mod-friendly. Put some software on it, boom 85hp. Just like that. Put the same software on a Carrera S (same price too) you might see 20-25hp or so. There is a down-side to this. You become a junkie and are always craving more. I'm somewhere around 520hp at this point and I've only owned the car for six months! Even with all this hp it's still an easy car to drive around town and it's my daily driver. Look out, it's catching.
  2. Oh you will feel a difference, a big difference. Before the flash I would only see .6 sustained, and .7 bar peaks. Now I get 1.0 all the time and 1.1 peaks occasionally. I went with the GIAC flash because of the flexibility in programming with the handheld and the upgrade path. I was skeptical too. I had never owned a turbo before, only normally aspirated Porsches. The turbos are SO moddable it's crazy and I'm well on my way to insanity. Get a flash now! P.S. Once I got rid of the stock exhaust and added the K&N filter the software really caught it's second wind. The stock exhaust is way too restrictive for the software, but the software will improve your performance dramatically even without changing the exhaust. The biggest difference I noticed with the exhaust change was how much faster the turbo spools up. THAT you can feel in your butt big time. I also agree that the DV change is a must. My mechanic said that the stock DV's won't handle the increased boost for long. I saw a car exactly like mine with the same mods hit 508hp on the Mustang 4-wheel dyno using 91 octane fuel. This is some serious fun. I tend to run a 50% mixture of 100 octane race gas available at the pump which may even get me more hp, who knows.
  3. I haven't completed that mod yet but the shop that I go to recommends JIC even though they sell both brands you mention. They said that the JIC setup has more combinations of settings. They're both close to the same price.
  4. I agree whole-heartedly with wross996TT. The mods that I did and the order in which I did/are doing them was after talking to my local shop that I trust. As far as headers go... most of the techies on the boards and the german tuners say that aftermarket headers are not necessary until you hit somewhere around 750-800hp. Personally, I'm going to have the stock header welds cleaned up and polished like mentioned on another forum. I've heard great things about the stock headers with this modification, i.e., shaving 400-500 rpm off the boost lag. I should also mention in reference to my original post... the factory shifter kit cost about double what the B&M kit does. I also wish this forum had a way to delete a post just in case you screw up and hit the submit button twice due to impatience.
  5. Here ya' go: 1. SSK - B&M or factory, no matter ($200) 2. Software - Revo or GIAC ($2000) 3. Upgraded Diverter Valves ($240) 4. Sport air filter - BMC or K&N ($75) 5. After market exhaust - FVD, Cargraphic, Europipe ($4000-$5000) 6. After market intake plenum ($1500) 7. Upgraded turbo hoses ($720) 8. Bilstein PSS9 Suspension kit (+/- $2800) That's a good start and will bring you up to around 500hp or so. There's a lot more that can be done but this should keep you busy for now. I would recommend against changing the stock airbox right now. Just change the filter. :welcome: Tell me about the aftermarket intake plenum. Did it make a difference? What brand and where did you get it? Actually, when I say plenum I'm talking about what some call the throttle body. The local shops here in SoCal sell one that creates better airflow on the intake side and it costs about $1500. It doesn't create a whole lot more power, maybe 10-12 hp, which is why it is so far down the list and next in line for me. The "plenum" I'm talking about is fabricated locally here in SoCal. You can find out more by contacting Stuttgart Performance in Costa Mesa, Ca. No, I don't work for them. The list represents my plan of attack and have completed up through #5 so far. This is at the recommendation of three local tuners. You can do the suspension mods at any time depending on what your priorities are. My priorities are to finish the engine first and then do the suspension. BTW, I have decided against the PSS9 kit in favor for the JIC setup. It has more flexibility in the different settings available.

I don't know the manufacturer name other than that they are fabricated locally by a guy called "Turbo Mike". You can find out more by contacting Stuttgart Performance in Costa Mesa, Ca. No, I don't work there, just respect their knowledge. The list represents my plan of attack and have completed up through #5 so far. This is at the recommendation of three local tuners. 8. I had a similar problem and it was fixed at the dealer yesterday: “Removed the clutch pedal assembly. Cleaned and lubed all pivot points, bushings, and return spring. Labor $110.00” I had the same thing done at the dealer yesterday. Except for the fact that they actually put a new return spring in.
