  1. I fitted a kit designed for the TReg, my rennlist gallery has pictures of the process.  You can buy the parts for less that $200, its only rated at 6000Lb's but that was enough for my needs.

The hardest part is getting the electronic control unit in, and the car programmed to recognise it has a tow kit. In the end I saved about only $500 because I had to pay the dealer to do that.

You do have to cut the rear skirt to allow the carrier out and the electrics in. Not a big issue.

Thanks, but I didn't want to have to cut anything so my dealer was able to add it to my order. Figure $630 bucks on a 75k vehicle is nothing.

    Cheers,

    Corey

  2. yeh i understand this after ringing round.  is a boxter year 2001 likely to have the same gearbox (or second gear syncro)

    Thanks again Darren

I believe boxster(base model) is a VW transmission shared with the Passat, the Boxster S is the same transmission as the 996(with a few minor changes).

If you do find replacement parts(you might want to check some racing sites), please let us all know because at somepoint we will all need to do some tranny work if we keep our cars long enough.

    goodluck,

    Corey

  3. I'm not planning on towing anything, but incase it comes up in the life of my cayenne(I did not order the towing kit due to the weight)...

Is there an aftermarket solution that does not require cutting or replacing the factory bumper?

If not does anyone work for a customizing shop, it seems to me this might be something people will be looking for in the future especially as the people buy second hand cayennes and want to tow with them.

    Thanks,

    Corey

  4. Is there an equivalent "muffler" builtin to the 996 airbox that I can just remove like the desnorking on the boxster to increase the intake noise without buying a whole cold-air kit.

Has anyone done this or have they just gone the cold-air kit route. I will eventually get a coldair kit, but wanted to drive around for a month or two to see if the intake noise is too much at higher RPM.

    Thanks,

    Corey

  5. At that point you are better off with a standalone navigation unit(more flexible) like a garmin navigation unit. You will not need to hook it up to any amp(you can't hook it up to the porsche amp, it's fiber optic, so there will also be a problem for the traffic pro if you want to share speakers/amp with your current system).

I used to have a streetpilot III(one of the first to have auto-recalculation when you make a mistake) which I used in my boxster, it was great and they have only gotten better and cheaper, also you get the flexability to take it in any car you use(i.e. rentals, wife's car). I went with the pcm2 on my 996 because I could and I got a really good deal on my unit(though it still cost me a few thousand to do).

BTW: They now have touch sensitive streetpilot's with many more features and the prices have come down and the internal storage has gone up, so check it out.

    Cheers,

    Corey

  6. Try to get a set from a boxster on ebay, it will have the orange reflector but won't be mistaken for litronics by thieves. I have heard where people on 996's have had the std lights stolen because the thieves were dumb and didn't realise they weren't litronics. I think in 99 the 996 sans lits had orange reflectors too.

Also be thankful they didn't damage your fenders or bumper when they took the litronics out, I have heard of that one too.

I heard this was a problem in florida and in california, luckly they seem to only go after nissan maxima's here in NJ(knock on wood).

BTW you can have your headlights wired to the alarm in the car it shoud cost about 200 bucks.

    Goodluck,

    Corey

  7. I just ordered a GT3(aerokitII) style rear wing for my 03 996 and will be getting it painted in a few weeks when it comes in.

However to get that factory look I will need the stickers under engine cover(i.e. vacume diagram, mobile fill).

    Can you buy these seperatly?

    What are the part numbers?

Can someone with a factory aerokitII please send me or post a pic of the stickers that are there currently.

    Thanks in advance,

    Corey
